We are all individuals Floss. We have to do what we can to survive, each and every one of us. Financial meltdowns aren't selective. They effect everyone involved.

Walk away when the time is right to walk away. Financial meltdowns don't do sentiment or emotion. Tough isn't it. :(
  • Oh dear Floss is this your new job? If so I would start looking now, but my goodness it is bad timing.

  • Errrm..the door out would be opened immediately.

Been there, seen that coming a couple of times - ie re employers about to go down the shoot.

First time - I realised the whole firm (a rather small one) was looking somewhat precarious. It was a shame - as I actually liked that job. It was "interesting" working there (ie more than a little unconventional). So I went off asking one of their main suppliers of work if they had anything going - and they did and I got it. I did not think much of that job in the event:( - but I was soon proven correct that the firm I liked was going to go down the drain.

Second time - one person business and I had suspicions about it, found their accounts and studied them and drew my own conclusions. Circumstances were such that I needed to stay and see if I was correct that I was about to be made redundant. So I stayed. Few weeks later I was redundant.

So - yep...."Door - fast as..." sums up my how-to on this.

EDIT; Obviously, it's a good idea to work out what (if any) redundancy money might be in the offing. Ditto to not handing in notice without a job to go to = the following week.

Floss - as Mrs LW says, as soon as you can find another job. I'd also be careful on spending in case they end up owing you money. It's not unusual for the final month's money not to materialise in these cases.

As soon as you get a new job and make sure you are up to date with holidays.

My DD worked for a company just after she finished at university. They went bankrupt. They were all told to leave the premises taking everything they owned at 10am on a Monday morning. She lost 4 weeks pay plus two weeks holiday pay.

Wednesday morning she was walking down the high street the boss of the only rival company was walking towards her. He told he had heard she had lost her job and offered her one starting the next day. Six weeks later she was the deputy manager. I think she was glad she then went into teaching as the second place was sold to another rival and eventually that went bust.

I hope this is not your new job.

Yes it's my new job :(

Am making contingency plans, and luckily I was paid last week for September, so not too costly if I lose a few days pay.

I'm so sorry Floss. I don't actually know what to say. It was this time last year when we were dealing with redundancy so I can appreciate the worry you must be feeling.

Can I ask how is it that you suspect?
