The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times

I've always done what I want to do, as long as I'm not harming anyone, and if no one wants to join in, I'll do it on my own.
I am very good at doing 'nothing' too. I feel no guilt sitting (anywhere out and about) and just staring and taking in the world around me, or at home just reading or watching absolute trash on the TV.
Have a great day everyone.
Jazee, I love you. Can I live with you? I'm stuck in a household of folk who like to fill every unforgiving minute. I'm hoping that they give up on me soon.

Oh dear Monna. My MIL stayed with us last week and although we did one day out, that was mainly spent chatting in a coffee shop. The rest of the time was chilling out (as they say) with a pile of magazines. She's coming back in October!
Today though, I am doing something. No plans for me, so I shall potter in the garden which I love.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
See, this is my problem! I'm not conventional and speak my mind/do my own thing but I had this mother who thought that if you were reading a book then you were being lazy! Reading was a waste of time, watching the birds or the clouds was a waste of time, staring into the fire was a waste of time. Everything I liked was a Waste of Time and I should give myself a shake and go and Do Something Useful. I canny shake that wee guilty feeling even yet at 66!! lol0

Each to their own on level of activity.
I shall be off out doing some hours work shortly (all voluntary). It's partly a way of socialising and partly I find it hard not "achieving" anything in a day. I feel really bad if I have had a whole week of not "achieving" anything.
Definitely no workaholic - though I've been known to put in over 50 hours a week working before now (all unpaid):rotfl:
I am having to "kick myself" a bit now that I've moved to a rather different area of the country and done the worst of the house renovation. I am finding I have to set myself things to do/keep lists of tasks that need doing up on the fridge or I could easily find myself having spent days at a time not doing anything very much. When I first moved here I was surprised at how many people asked me if I'd "slowed down yet". I think I know what they mean by now and am aware I'd better not "slow right down" - as I would wonder whether I could get myself "back up to speed" again if I ever move back (ie belting round between 3-4 different activities out in a day frequently). I can see lots of others doing just one activity out a day and that seems to be common and that's not what I want for myself personally.
That's just me and how I feel and I'm still working out a balance. My own feeling is "Since I'm stuck here for a while on Earth - then I'd better make it worth my while and Do Something whilst I'm here" LOL. This may be because I'm from a very "buzzy" place that is very "move with the times" or, even "move ahead of the times" atmosphere about it.0 -

Right Jazee. October. I'm writing it in my diary. I take it there is room for another MIL. I'm desperate to meet your MIL, I have a feeling we are destined to be best friends.
Not so sure about your pottering in the garden, it sounds suspiciously like outdoor housework to me.
Ah, Mar. I had no trouble with my mother but my father was another story. I well remember him finding me curled up on my bed with a book while we were on holiday. He was furious. The tirade that followed was along the lines that I could read at home but he had spent good money on bringing us all to the beach and if I knew what was good for me I'd get out there and make it worth his while.
It was a bit, "Enjoy yourself when I say 'Begin.' "

I love nothing more than a lazy day with nothing more to do than read, in fact I'm now sat with my feet up and I'm going to read my Kindle.
Today I have been a plumbers mate, which means running up and down stairs with tools, bits of pipe, and also 3 trips to the local B&Q to buy copper pipe and plastic waste pipe..
In between this I have scrubbed various parts of the kitchen that I usually try to ignore, i.e. behind the fridge etc. I've cleaned the windows and washed the nets. I've also kept us all fed and watered, and fed the cats.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Polish your halo Hester. You make me feel ashamed.
In my own defence I did go to church this morning and delivered intercessory prayers that I wrote at about midnight last night, so not an entirely wasted day.

Hi all ,
Sometimes don't you just wonder if it's only you that collect the "problem " customer etc ...
Just done a shift from hell, not because it was mad busy, but because half the bar had lost the plot , I think even before alcohol was involved . Spent half the night either as a bouncer, therapists,friend,... etc etc ....
The 2 main people involved would have been fine if it wasn't for their friends input , !!!!
Thankfully nothing broken , .... just a long night , so not long back ....
Must try and chill now ,back there tomorrow ....:(£223/ £250 GC0
