Burtha, I just want to give her a big hug
Meanwhile, here at the funny farm.... the bathroom continues on apace. Various problems have arisen, many swearwords have been used (including loudly by me in various directions), and I've solved them by wrangling contractors and suppliers. It's like herding cats. And all of this in a haze of crap and dust.
And now the main bedroom has started too.... hey, why not, in for a penny...
Anyone for whisky?Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Whisky? Hey, you called my name!
Why?
Because we are well into the 5th week of grandhounddog sitting for SDD2's two hounds. Her grandpa is in critical condition in the ICU. She's going from her home 3 hrs north of here to be with her mom's side of her family at the hospital in Texas. I fear week six of dog sitting is almost a for sure thing.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Mila, I don't envy you, I have my DD's 2 dogs for a few days, I was dreading it as one of the dogs cries all the time because he misses his family. This time he cried for 10 minutes and then stopped, has been as good a gold ever since.
Monna, my goodness you must be exhausted.
Burtha, hang on in there, I'm sure her confidence will improve with such care from you.
Softsuff, I feel you pain.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Are you being sarcastic Hester?
What I'm doing is a tiny fraction of what you do every day of your life. Mind you, I'm older than you and don't think that I won't play that card whenever it suits me.
Softstuff and Mila: Ouch, ouch and triple ouch!!!

Morning all,
Three kilos of jam sugar were procured on yesterday's walk. I also gathered blackberry intel which tells me that it will be at least a week before I need to get my trug ready. The spanikopita was delicious and I think I need to put it into more regular rotation. On the downside it didn't make as much as I anticipated so we have enough for lunch today and that is it. It is soup for tea, so I'll make bread today and do a loaf to use for pack ups Saturday. We have tuna, cheese and a rather nice chutney that can all become sandwiches so I think that will be the plan. OH's hollow legs just seem endless in summer. He gets a hot meal when he is at school and there are always biscuits and the like lurking around so when he is home all day there is just that much more food to come up with. We need yet another cake. I'll see what I have the stamina for after I finish at the gym after work today. Work is of course plodding along. I have a particularly tedious task at the moment and no deadline for it other than I feel this ought to be finished, so it is easy to get distracted. I'm also mindful that it will be all things go starting in September so it might just be ok if I take more of a plodding pace for the next few weeks.
I'm hoping to get the first few seams done on the skirt today, but we'll see.
Softstuff and Mila I buy myself a bottle of scotch periodically which is kept near my desk. My current bottle is getting low having been around for at least a year if not possibly a bit longer, but you're both welcome to what is left of it! This is JUST the sort of circumstance I keep it for.
Monna I'll pass the bottle around to you when the others are finished with it--you sound like you could use a very good night's sleep--but what wonderful fun! The courgettes will rally soon enough. I only ever end up with two plants which is just about what we can eat comfortably between cakes, fritters, lasagna and the odd stir fry/thai curry. I'd like to have a surplus one day, but my growing conditions tend to stunt the plants a bit and I've never managed to defend my third, fourth and fifth plants from the slugs.
Burtha The toilet sounds like just the sort of place to while away a bit of time trying to work out this potty training thing.0 -
My courgette plants have lovely flowers, lots of them in fact. Sadly not one courgette is forming. Same with the tomato plants. I think I'll stick with flowers from now on!0

Been there often camelot - maybe that's why this year I grew nothing at all.0

Have tried with both too. Have now faced the fact we do not get enough sun. Shame as I love tomatoes. Flowers have been really good. An upside to all this rain. How are you feeling Mardatha?0

I babied my first ever courgette plant. Having heard tales of wonderful courgetty abundance I readied my recipes and rubbed together my hands optimistically.
After much love, care, fertiliser, mildew treatment and pest control, we enjoyed our harvest.
1 courgette. And a small one at that.
I did slightly better with the cherry tomatoes. We enjoyed 6 of those :rotfl:
To be fair, it wasn't the ideal position for sun and it was a wet and humid year. So I'm going again soon. Oh, and I'm trying to grow chokos. Apparently very easy to grow, abundant, but an acquired taste.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
