Hooray, sunny today! I plan to put some bulbs in. We have a very awkward raised corner flower bed which is impossible to dig over unless you stand in it, but I'm hoping I can manage to dig the parts near the edge at any rate. It might be too muddy today though, I'll see.

May have a bit of good news. A very close childhood friend of mine is off to Australia next month, they will be away for three weeks whilst she is with family (her brother). They still live in Northants and so she has offered to me the use of their home (kind of as a house sitting thing) whilst they are away. That will give me the scope to see what I want to do and whether moving back is the right thing. I know her house inside out and I have looked after it so many times when they have gone away previously - I just never slept over :) it's at times like this that your truest of friends really raise their game and I am so grateful.

I am also going to join the local WI, it will get me out and help me to meet like minded souls.

Rainydays - posted earlier but the battery went on my tablet & I lost it!! So pleased that another avenue has opened for you that will give you time and space to decide what's best for you instead of having to make a 'knee jerk' decision. Joining the WI is an excellent idea too as it brings you into contact with people you probably wouldn't have met day to day.
    Good Luck!!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • Rainydays, if you move back it will in no way be a failure. You had a dream, you tried it and it didn't work - far better than living wondering what might have been.

The past is exactly that, if you feel you have to move on to another chapter of your life then that's what you should do.

Good luck, I'm glad you are going to house sit, it will give you time to think about things and see how the land lies back home. The WI sounds like a good place to meet some new people and become involved in local life - you never know where it will lead.

Rainy-Days, That's lovely, it should help you decide what's the best way ahead. In the meantime, a nice lady called Lucielle posted one or two pages ago, she lives in Northumberland and is asking if she can be of any help.

Thought I'd mention it in case you didn't see her post :)
  • Hello my lovelies,

Last time I popped back to say hi we had one of the kids rushed in to Hospital so hopefully now things are back on a calmer (touch wood) level I can start popping back in again.

Had a somewhat rubbish year and so much has gone on I'm trying to pick myself up and have a more positive outlook (boy it's hard)

So now I'm back on the old thrifty ways and I need you Ladies (and Gent) to keep me on the straight and narrow :D

Hope your having a fab weekend,

    PiC xx
  • Hi SHEILA we were given a wonderful gift this week, some friends who have moved out of the village have given us their wood pile as they don't have a wood burner in the new house. He Who Knows went and collected it all this afternoon and we've filled 3 cradles with well seasoned hardwood, all the store is full now, it's going to keep us warm all winter, that's what I call a present!

Lovely to see you PIC :j Sending you (((HUGS))) and I trust your DC is okay now  Sorry, I can't remember whether you have boys or girls or both, and DC seems a bit rude somehow!

Just had a quick look at the recipe I'm making tonight (Chicken Marengo from the Everyday Diabetes Cookbook). One thing it needs is mushrooms. What had we bought, but then eaten? All the mushrooms :o so had to nip out to mr S while the rugby was on half-time. You could tell which other shoppers had also come out during half-time as they were all walking very fast :D

    Good morning!

The Chicken Marengo was fine. Not quite as good as the Burgundy Chicken we tried recently from the same book, but perfectly acceptable. Would I make it again? Probably. The writer had suggested brown rice with it, so we tried that and it went better with the sauce than white rice would have done, I think.,

We'll be helping with childcare for one or other (sometimes both) grandchildren after school a couple of days a week this term. :j It will be tiring but fun.
