greenbee - That made me laugh, I always think that I hold the builders captive as it's quite hard to get them here! They have been here so long now that it is one of their birthdays today and we bought him a present and card!

DD got the keys to her new flat today, it's been a long 3 months waiting for solicitors, etc but to see her face when she unlocked that door this evening was priceless. We'll move her in properly next week but can go up every night with a car full of things.

Hopefully they won't be here that long (at some point I'll run out of money and they'll have to go away while I save up).

    However, they have now started:

    1. The bathroom (it is empty, the pipework has been redone, and the floor is up).
    2. Redoing the heating pipework (the upstairs heating is drained and the boiler off) and replacing upstairs radiatiors
    3. The attic (all the junk, insulation and mouse poo are out ready for it to be reinsulated)
    4. External paintwork (rafter tails painted, weather boarding painted, bargeboards sanded, half the windows sanded)
    5. Roof/gutters (most of the roof has been done, but the gutters are being cleaned, moss removed from the slates, leadwork cleaned and broken/missing/slipping slates dealt with on the main roof and the garage)
    6. Downstairs cloakrom (most of it done last year - splashback needs tiling now, floors/skirtings need to wait till I'm ready to do all the floors)

They are also due to do the ensuite and paint the main bedroom while they are here... but I want the first bathroom finished first!

It must be horribly stressful greenbee - but oh, won't it look lovely when it's finished, as well as everything being in good working order :D

DS replaced the radiators here last year, apart from the one in his room, where he took the old one out when it sprang a leak but he doesn't want to install the new one until the wall behind it has been replastered.....so the new one has been in its box leaning against the wall in the living room, for months and months....

I'd dump it in his bedroom Ivy, so he has to keep moving it when it gets in his way. Then he will fit it !

Nice idea, but there is no room in his bedroom because it's full of carp, which is the real reason why he hasn't yet had the wall plastered, nor replaced the old water tank in the airing cupboard - he can't actually get at the wall or the airing cupboard until he gets rid of the carp, but he seems mentally unable to do so. He just about has room to get in and out. I've tried to help him clear it, but it just builds up again :( He seems to think he deserves to sleep in a midden.

ETA I wouldn't actually be physically able to get the new radiator up the stairs in any case!

Oh god Ivy, I couldn't bear that. I'm def a minimalist and if my sons were back home and did that then the entire bedroom would be turfed out of the window.
Ok so I'm a ratty sow. LOL!

It could be worse, at least it's not ceiling-high or anything! There's just very little floor space.
