The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times

Who knows how frogs get in anywhere?:)
I came across a tiny one hopping across the path in front of me recently - and it looked as if it had crossed the road to get to share my path with me.
Well it made it in one piece and hopped off into someone's garden hedge.
I was just left wondering if, unbeknownst to me, one of my neighbours has a garden pond and Froggie had gone walkabout and was now heading homewards:rotfl:0 -
Well, there's another 40mins(I went back to the strimmer:p)at ground level I thought I wasn't getting anywhere but from the bedroom I can see I am making a difference.
I really wish that I could getaway with not using the cutters I purchased today. And attempt a refund but I think that I may have to give in. They're purchased now. They will be easier than the strimmer or a spade.
No more frogs as yet...;)I may go back tonight and do some more but perhaps I should call it a day. There's always tomorrow."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Sounds like you are making headway Popperwell, don't try to do too much or you will run out of energy!
Shanks, that's not good, hope you can find some more hours somewhere.
FPK - Hope you reported them.
Lovely evening here, managed to do a few bits in the garden. Off to bed now as I have a whole school trip tomorrow - wish me luck!!0 -
Again today, at ground level I felt I was getting nowhere in the garden but I am(from the bedroom I can see its so)
I think my problem will be getting rid of the rubbish. I've asked numerous times for a garden waste wheelie bin(they collect them once a month I think)but even that service isn't free and they restrict what is taken away)And after all the requests for the bin the council still manages to forget me.
I may have to bite the bullet and pay for it to be taken away :(Once on top of it, there won't be the shrubs to think about.
I have cut a fair few shrubs today but now I am left with stumps:mad:they'll be a devil to try and dig out. Perhaps I'll have to attempt sawing them off at ground level(?)
I believe that I found a second frog today(and saw the original one too)I may call it a day(I managed three hours;))
I am shattered, I slept solidly for a couple of hours(felt like a week)I see the threat of thunderstorms coming in from Europe so if I have to stop for a couple of days so be it. Tanked up on painkillers, going to use two walking sticks tonight and go early so I am sure to catch my bus to the music club. At least I'm just resting there."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Hi all, have spent the last few days reading back to catch up .....so hope everyone is OK .
Pops sounds like you are doing a good job with the garden, but do take your time ,Rome wasn't built in a day
Long days and nights at the minute, plus kids have tests at school, eldest dd just returned to work so now doing extra babysitting ,good fun but forgot how much of a challenge making tea for teenage kids plus baby then homework with baby is ....maybe I am just getting old. ....lol
But fab that I can help out ,she loves sitting with kids at tea time and is very impressive with her use of her folk and the way she says stab as she is doing it ....very funny
Anyway better get some sleep, early start tomorrow ....night all x£223/ £250 GC0 -
Trying to cool down here, did my shift at the hospice after work and it was so hot. Had to have a lie down for 10 minutes and then have a shower, beginning to feel a bit better now.
Shouldn't moan really, it's not raining!
DD put in an offer for a flat yesterday but there's quite a lot of interest so they have put a closing date on - not good as she has a strict budget.
Hope all's well with you good folk.0 -
I ran out of coffee(I only have Tesco's coffee granules in the Everyday value range)50p for 100g and so I used a can(on offer)that I had in the house of Nescaf! Smooth Roast...I prefer the cheap one:D
I've been buying my vitamins/minerals and with the offer of buy two get(the third)the cheapest free even with the extra 4th item I purchased. Its only costing me 3p a day. Cranberry capsules, mineral and vitamins for the 50+ Omega 3+6+9, Garlic capsules. That's approx. 3p per day. I don't know if they make any difference but they seem OK. And I try to eat well of course.
The last day or two have been a bit of a struggle in the garden(the last quarter to be done if that)removing weeds and ivy but I'm determined. I may invest in some weed killer/lawn feeder. But I'm almost there. I have my garden sacks and purchased some good gardening gloves(I was amazed that the gloves only cost £1)
I need to get the strimmer going one last time.
Bingo tonight and I almost broke even, I was only 90p out of pocket overall. I really should've taken images before and after but didn't. And hopefully I'll keep on top of it now.
Not sure how hot its been here today, it was warm in the sun(no breeze)but cooler in the evening/quite pleasant.
Hope everyone is going on alright:)"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Whew....and, speaking of gardens I'm breathing a sigh of relief today.
Reason being I have spent (or am spending) literally thousands of £s to get the garden of my new-to-me house sorted out ready for foodgrowing (organic obviously) and I thought that a nearby land-owner was planning on spraying around weedkillers on an adjacent bit of land. That would have meant my house being worthless to me personally - as I would have been unable to have my garden I have spent all that money to have as Someone Else's Chemicals would have ruined it.
Me being the way I am = I would have continued with my plans to grow my food there anyway and then worried myself that I would be made ill by that Someone Elses chemicals, followed by having to find out whether I could claim compensation for that...
Thankfully - it all got resolved okay and they aren't going to be spraying their nasty chemicals around <whew smilie>.
That was the best part of a bottle of wine downed and a sleepless night later wondering whether they were going to ruin all my plans - but they haven't in the event:)
Duly got sympathised with this morning by someone ITRW that has an organic garden and is also worrying themselves that the next door neighbour is spraying weedkiller around the place - and they are very upset about it - despite not growing food like I do.
Whew....neighbours...eh?:cool:0 -
Hi everyone, just back from holiday! Lots of catching up to do now!0

I've given up on the thought of gardening today. I hope it doesn't rain as I'll use Saturday instead. I have now have some weed killer that will green the lawn/kill moss/dandelions etc...but not the grass. Some wood panels need replacing but I have some Cuprinol and a brush to paint them for now(Another job) I may be able to save some of them. It was half price and it says I can cover 8 panels(that's approx. what I have)
I am determined to finish the last third of the back lawns and bag it. Its been an expensive fortnight buying gardening equipment, maybe I should spend one last time and buy a lawn mower. I went out around 1.30pm and came home around 5pm with a shopping trolley totally packed, much more than I planned:(
I rarely use chemicals in the garden but this is one time I think I shall have to but its a mild one I have chosen that should not affect grass/flowers.
I gave in and purchased some loafer canvas type shoes(a pair in blue, a pair in beige and I also a cheap pair of trainers)I go through shoes like nobody's business. My last trainers were Lonsdale but I wouldn't say that they lasted very long. I walk at a strange angle and have an unsteady gate. I hope I can have a period of time now where I spend very little again or perhaps win some to replace what I have spent.
Tonight I have had a wholemeal bap containing corned beef and sliced tomato and a mug of coffee and plan to listen to the radio.
Sunday(weather and health permitting)I may attend a church service at Durham Cathedral, have a sit for a while in the market place and then catch a bus to the Durham Light Infantry Museum in the afternoon and see a free afternoon concert in the grounds of the Durham Gala Theatre Big Band. I'll take a bottle of squash, a bap and my chair so I have something comfortable to sit on for the entertainment. I missed last weeks concert(I forgot all about it)
I've just discovered that its Durham's Regatta on Saturday and Sunday so there are a couple of events to attend this weekend(I missed that last year too)
Its good to hear that there is some good news out there amongst the doom and gloom. I hope that the weekend is kind."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
