Morning all,
Loving all of the stories about cats. We live very near to a main road, particularly 'as the cat walks' so Maggie is confined to the back garden which means she has to be supervised when she is out. I know she would dearly love a catflap, and I feel a bit guilty for keeping her in, but the vet said in our densely populated road with so many cats many of them become stressed about territory anyway. Maybe when we buy a house in a few years it will be somewhere where she can roam a bit more.
Cheese and jam :rotfl: I can just picture the disapproving tone. I think you'd best keep your sandwiches in line Monnagran.
OH is home today. He'd set up cover yesterday as his voice was gone by the end of the day, but waited to see if it had come back this morning. It hasn't. He brought home lots of marking and planning in case he couldn't go in today so I'll be ferrying cups of tea and hot honey and lemon to him on the sofa and hopefully he'll be back to talking by tomorrow. He says he feels quite rotten as well. It is unusual for him, he is usually the type to keep going as normal when ill, I'm generally the one who is knocked flat and have to take to my bed like a Victorian lady.
My plans are still exam questions and exam reading in the morning and then relaxation in the afternoon. I managed to re-fill the paper bin yesterday after it was emptied of the packaging from the lamps. There is still one to unbox, but I'll have to assess the space for the polystyrene blocks in the rubbish bin before I can do that. I've cleaned all of the windows outside that I can reach so need to do inside, including shower doors and mirrors. That and knitting will be my afternoon projects.
I'll pop out to get some more cold medicine for OH and will check to see if the Ald! voucher is on. Not sure if we'll get one this month or not. It will mean I don't save any more on the challenge as the voucher just brings us under the shopping budget. On the other hand we're low on things and it might mean I can do a mini challenge next month if I can re-stock. I'm also low on vinegars which I use a lot of in the summer for salads and stir fries. We have a money off voucher for one of the big SM so may do one of those to restock things we can't get at Ald! next month.
New recipe for tea tonight--a sausage and pearl barley soup. It goes in the SC for about 4 hours, so will prep it at lunch time. We've been naughty this week--bacon in the quiche and sausage in the soup, but it is probably less than a serving of processed meat each time.
Thanks Jazeewe are enjoying the quiet, although we're both worried it will be short-lived. Several people who made a show of moving on when the police were there have come back.0 -
Alfsmum - you probably already know but Blueberries need acid soil. Had to put mine in pots as I'm on clay but they've produced well.
Loving the cat tales - and do I know the stare GQ!
I'm also partial to 'cheese & jam' its also good with a rasher of bacon.
Haven't seen a 'vulture' - how many of us have words like that. DS1' was Giggits for biscuits & we've had Ambience for Ambulance and a nasty Crocodowel!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
In this house French Fancies are known as "French Bouncies" courtesy of DD1 aged 2.0

In this house anything that spread on bread/toast was known as 'JAMALADE' and the type defined by its colour and meringues were always 'MANGS'0

I had one who transposed the middle syllables of words, so we had hostipals, mazagines and loppillops. The husband of one of my friends, a very serious, dignified man, distinguished himself by going into a shop and asking for 'dippy-dunks', his toddlers name for swimming trunks.

When DD2 was small she wouldn't drink milk so I thought of desserts made with milk, and her favourite was "angel Alight"

The post puzzling thing I have ever been asked for is messa jerry phirits?
Turned out my older DS wanted some mentholated spirits to clean his electric train track.
He aslo went through a phase of not being able to remember which was green and which was blue so we had blean for the two for years.0 -
Just popping in to say that there was no money off a full shop voucher in the paper today, just percent off specific items. I didn't buy it and didn't want to stand there studying it, although I think the first one was for washing up liquid.0

I felt right conned when I opened the paper to see that grr. I saw the Aldi logo on the front page and just assumed it was the usual. Nothing I want - even the washing up liquid is the premium rather than the classic I always use.
Humph!! Sulk!! Gonna go to Lidl's now, so there! It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
I know Maryb! I almost just scooped it into my basket when I saw the logo and then thought "wait a minute, isn't there usually a big £5 on it as well?" so I flicked through to check. We wouldn't buy the paper for content so it would have been a waste of money if I had bought it.0
