Moto E Phone - Answering Call Problem

Hi,

First foray into the world of smartphones and I bought a Moto E for my wife.

However, she is having a problem with answering calls from Unknown numbers.

Instead of ringing, she gets a voice saying "Call from unknown number - say answer or ignore" and the phone doesn't ring. She tries to say answer, but it isn't recognized and goes straight to voice mail or comes up as a missed call. Maybe her accent.

Anyway it's really annoying and we've tried to find a way to disable it and just get it to ring normally and allow her to swipe to answer. But no luck.

Can anyone tell us how to sort this - I assume it's Google Voice?

Having had a look at the Moto E User Guide I'm wondering if TalkBack is enabled under Accessibility.

I found this on the phone's PDF:

When you want to hear who's calling:
• Read out loud: have your caller announced—touch Apps > Settings > Accessibility > Talkback> Settings > Speak Caller ID.

To disable it touch Apps>Settings>Accessibility>Talkback and slide it to off.

Thank you for your reply - much appreciated. However, after going into Accessibility - Talkback isn't listed?

I have a copy of the PDF and like you say it shows how to turn it off. But it's not there.

I have played with Text-to speech output, but again no way to turn it off !!

are you using an phone App like Hangout for the calls?

Strange, for me Talkback is the very first item listed under Accessibility.

Not that I'm aware of - don't even know what that is

She did have True Caller installed, but we uninstalled this today as it we thought this may have been the culprit. Restarted the phone, but no joy.

For me, it's listed under SERVICES.

Is 'Google Talkback' listed as being installed under'My apps' at Play Store?
