Could someone summarise the changes ? I am not sure what their rules were before.0

You no longer get 1 free piece of hold luggage theres a £2/£5 fee per bag (advance booked/at check in)0

What a cheek!!! I suppose they'll be changing their hand luggage policy next. I blame Ryanair0

I blame Ryanair
So all because someone already does something, it is all their fault?!!
Perhaps it is just a business decision on the part of Easyjet ... or maybe they are colluding?!
Anybody want to blame Ryanair for anything else? Global warming, war, disease?!Gone ... or have I?0 -

Not very clear at all. On the Q&A bit it states that all luggage will be charged regardless of when booked-
"Flights Departing on or after 1 October 2007 (Regardless of when Booked)
Every item of hold baggage will incur a fee (please see our carrier’s regulations for details). If your combined hold baggage weight exceeds the 20kg limit, excess weight charges apply. These have to be paid at the airport sales desk. Each passenger may check in hold baggage up to a combined maximum of 50kg."
Then you go onto the News section for Easyjet and it states-
"From today, Friday 3rd August 2007, new reservations for travel from 1st October 2007 onwards will be subject to a fee for each piece of hold baggage of £2* per flight sector"
So does my flight to Walsall on 6th October that I booked in May attract the 'simplified' charges or not?
And regarding Ryanair, any Business that charges add-on fees to the headline rate are commonly dubbed as 'doing a Ryanair', as they are the masters of the hidden charge. I used it only last night to describe Bristol City charging a booking fee and using an 0871 number for ticket ordering!0 -
It's how they can keep the flight costs down, though... wouldn't you rather have a cheaper flight when you're only taking hand-luggage, instead of subsidising those who need hold luggage?
Budget airlines can only remain budget by charging separately for "luxuries". They strip back everything they possibly can, streamlining their processes (online booking etc), saving cost on everything across the business, and then offering customers the option to pay a little extra if they want an increased service.
Up until recently, we've assumed that hold luggage is a given when you fly. But recent examples from other budget airlines (yes, like Ryanair), have shown that a portion of customers won't use the hold allowance if they can save a couple of quid.
Therefore, a (come on, pretty small) charge enables those of us going on daytrips to pay less for our flights, while those of us who are going for longer retain the option to use the hold.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
So now apart from this new charge, you have to pay taxes, credit card charges and extra to get a chance of a decent seat, all of a sudden the " low cost carriers " are not looking all that low cost.;)0

If you are thinking of travelling off peak in the winter from Gatwick, the BA sale starts at the end of this month and their fares will be more competitive with easyJet if you compare all of the easyJet exta costs, unless BA start hold luggage charges.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

A couple of weeks ago, I booked flights to Rome next February. When I log into my booking, it tells me that we can take 2 items of hold baggage between the 2 of us and that if we want to take more bags, we can add them to the booking for the relevant fee. It would appear that if you booked a flight departing after 1 October before the new rules came in today, you're ok.Not very clear at all. I presume you are flying to Warsaw and not Walsall on 6 October, by the way
