Anyone else found contacting M and S Bank completely impossible??
I applied online for an account to get the switching offer. Accepted after 3 days, took 13 working days for card and pin to come through.
Tried calling the number to activate the card- on hold for 20 minutes no joy. Called on 3 different days at different times same story. Tried calling customer services- still on hold after 15 minutes I gave up. Tried the cheaper rate number 03 suggested, still no answer.
Finally today I drove the 16 miles to my nearest branch in Glasgow. Explained how unhappy I was and a form was produced that I signed to activate the debit card. I asked if I could start the switching process - was told NO I have to use the switching service only available via telephone if I want the bonus. I asked if they could call me to save my now gigantic phone bill- gave them the number and a suitable time to call, 3 days later I'm still waiting.
Exasperated!!

Maybe that's why they allow 6 months for you to switch accounts. : )
I applied recently so hopefully it goes better.0 -
The website clearly state you can switch at M&S branch. I switched my account at the branch without any problems.
I dont use M&S as my main account. Kept it open for the 6% reg saver.0 -
They seem overstretched. I've twice phoned up to switch but haven't had the callback either time. I don't know if it's the same organisation but I gave up on their car insurance. You have to phone them to get the £50 cheaper deal. I hung up after over an hour in a queue.0

I switched to them 3 months ago and found them very efficient. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Nope!
I opened an M&S current account about 10 working days ago, got email confirmation the next day. Card arrived Wednesday, I activated it Friday on the telephone. Got through without delay, spoke to very helpful person who explained a few things, answered my questions and was very polite.
Phone number was national if I recall properly.
Didn't experience any problems with opening, activating or setting up.0 -
My experience varies wildly. I originally had a savings account with them, with online access. This was easy to set up but it proved impossible to close - which is probably just as well as it preserved my online access. It is still sitting there with £1 in it.
Getting my first M&S current account set up and a switch to it processed seemed to take forever, with lots of phone calls (national number) needed, and countless pieces of paper to sign. I switched that account to Halifax shortly after I had received the M&S switching bonus.
When they launched their 6% regular saver, I applied online for another current account. That application sailed through without need for any intervention and the account was fully operational (incl. debit card) within a week. I deposited £250 and called (national number) to set up the regular saver. It was all completed within minutes, no waiting on the phone, friendly and knowledgeable CS operative.0 -
We switched pretty much as soon as the fee-free account was launched, very efficient and no problems with the switch.0

Switched account and got the 6% saver with no problems,
nice peeps to talk you through all the details with a new MS account.
bit long winded though

Their internet banking is rudimentary - a colourful First Direct.
As you need that device to login and they don't have an mobile app, it's hard to know if things have come and gone (away from home) other than getting a balance from the ATM and making a guess.
Definitely designed for retired baby boomers to keep on eye on their BTL rent payments and investment portfoliosThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
