Phones4U Insolvency

Hi all,

Just a quick question - will my Dialaphone cashback redemption claims be affected by the fact that Phones4U went under late last year? Just reached the time when I can redeem my first claim, but want to be sure the money is still available first!

Cheers

I think they don't exist anymore, so you don't have anybody to claim from.

MSE article: Phones 4u administration: Full Q&A on your rights
In the Q&A below, wherever we refer to Phones 4U, the same questions and answers also apply to those who bought mobile phone contracts from Dial-a-Phone, which is owned by Phones 4U.

Nope no money around. From that link:
    Q. Will cashback/freebies offered with deals but yet to be received be honoured?
    A. PwC hadn't addressed this question until 26 September. On this date it said customers who purchased a phone from Phones 4U as part of a deal that included cashback/a free gift, will "unfortunately" not receive their cashback/free gift.

You should have known how this works as soon as it happens. You could have contacted the network and asked if (under the circumstances) they would reduce your monthly cost as a gesture of goodwill (they don't have to since it wasn't them paying the cashback). It's still worth doing so, explaining that you didn't realise that you wouldn't be able to claim the cashback under these circumstances and wouldn't have taken out the contract without it.

Remember, though, this is nothing to do with them (at least in theory!) so you have to throw yourself on their generosity.

If it is EE/T-Mobile they don't do gestures of goodwill (or didn't when I called - they told me it is nothing to do with them as I bought through a 3rd party). Also if I wanted to switch to EE for 4g I would have to effectively pay the complete contract off - I feel sure I have read you can move for free to a similar priced tariff or higher so will investigate further.

It wasn't and it happened a few years back as well as with Phones4u. However, it is also my experience that who you talk with, when you talk with them and how you talk with them does make a big difference.

You can move to a higher tariff, you just can't change network.

I thought that too but was told I couldn't upgrade until April next year (contract minimum ends in May!). It could be we were talking at crossed purposes. I was told yesterday that I cannot move from T-Mobile to EE without paying a £180 or so early redemption fee, despite http://ee.co.uk/help/getting-started/joining-ee/moving-to-ee-from-t-mobile-or-orange-if-you-have-a-4g-phone [STRIKE]suggesting[/STRIKE] stating clearly that you can. Not sure how it affects you if you are more than 180 days into a 24 month contract though. To be fair, their website is full of contradictory information and I am not sure I want to pay them even more when I have lost out on the cashback already.

    From your link
    Switching your pay monthly plan

If you'd like to move to EE, you just need to start a new plan on EE with the same monthly fee or more. There's no cost to move to EE and these are your options:

Customers on Orange and T-Mobile with 24 month plans:

If you've been on your existing plan for at least 60 days but less than 90 days: you'll need to start a new 24 month plan on EE.
If you've been on your existing plan for at least 90 days but less than 180 days: you'll need to start a new 21 month plan on EE.
Customers on Orange and T-Mobile with 18 month plans:

If you've been on your current plan for more than 60 days: you'll need to start a new 18 month plan on EE.
Customers on Orange and T-Mobile with 12 month plans:

If you've been on your current plan for more than 60 days: you'll need to start a new 12 month plan on EE.

If you do want to transfer you could make contact with the Executive Office on 0800 079 0232 opening hours are between 08:00 and 20:00, Monday to Friday or 08:00 and 18:00 on Saturday.

Make it plain you have requested the transfer from CS and they have refused so you are requesting that they intervene and arranged the transfer of your contract.

I phoned Orange regarding the Dialaphone cashback issue. Two times I was informed that someone would look into it and call me back and both times no answer. Then I emailed the CEO and got a reply from the CEO office(probably the complaints department) who stated nothing they could do and nothing they want to do not even a good will gesture or price plan change. I am owed narly £180 for two contracts. Its strange that they help some customers but not all from what I am reading.

I haven't seen anyone get a discount with regard to cash backs (unless I've missed the posts?), remember the network would have paid the majority of the commission that the retailer would use to fund the cash back.
