Because we don't like to hold people up. how many times have you been in a queue and there's been a stewards inquiry at the checkout.
We had an issue at M&S, dine for £10 wasn't taken off, went to customer services and was sorted without stress or drama.
So what's the deal with this bizarre post then? Is Adonis just helping to move the story along by making things up and pretending to be the OP?0 -

I didn't read it as the OP posting under another name , Adonis was just just we as in we (the general public) don't generally like to make a fuss. Nothing bizarre at allVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
I think the op did the correct thing in challenging it up with customer services rather than the cashier. Sounds like the cashier may have been up to something. If challenged the raspberries with the cashier, and they corrected it, then customer services may have ended up none the wiser and the cashier (if they are being deceitful) could be continuing doing this to other customers.0

I can't see how the cashier would have benefited? She couldn't have pocketed the £56 because her till would have been short.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Unless she has a managers override code and would have corrected it later - but it still would have shown up on reports and been questioned.
Its possible that she was trying to check that she hadn't double scanned something and managed to hit an odd combination of things that put in a manual scan by mistake but its best that the customer services know so they can check and sort it out and confirm nothing weird is going on.0 -
Just wanted to share my experience- hence the vent. I know about the interminable supermarket threads, so before I start I just want to make clear it's purely a cautionary tale- I'm not trolling and neither am I out for anything.
Seems a few on here don't 'get' the opening paragraph! Mrs_Ryan couldn't have made her innocent intentions for her thread any plainer. :T
I've nearly had a coronary at the size of my bill at the checkout on occasion but don't question it there, I skim down my receipt as I'm walking towards the exit checking the larger amounts, & stop off at customer service if I have questions before I leave the store.
Strange behaviour from the check out operator, probably never know what that was all about.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
I can't think of any reason why a cashier would need to pocket a receipt part way through scanning a shop. I have a feeling you may not be seeing that particular cashier on duty again.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I dont know about Asda, but in Tesco, a manager cant go back and change a transaction. They can override things in the current transaction, which will be shown both on the system and the receipt, but not on one thats already been processed.
The only way the cashier could benefit, is if they were to put cashback through and then pocket that. But this would also show on the receipt.
As long as what you were charged matches what is on the receipt, then its not something a cashier would do to pocket some money, and would just be some kind of mistake.
Going to customer service would be the correct thing to do, as cashiers cant usually fix the mistakes themselves.0 -

But that wouldn't work, a receipt wouldn't be printed unless the cashier then rung the transaction through. If that happened then they'd have to scan everything they already scanned again. If this didn't happen then the transaction couldn't have been rung through.0
