    Mmm - interesting.

we have just been looking at cars and were quite taken with the new ssangyong korando - lots of room in the back even when the drivers seat is right back, automatic and we are after a diesel. It's just the fall in value that concerns us as we were originally thinking about a PCP

Hubby was then comparing them to the Qashqai and an IX35.

Saying that, we then did a quick test drive in a Ford Kuga and we both love that - just trying to figure out the pennies now!

I've got a 59 plate 1.9tdi Octavia Elegance estate which has served our family of 4/5 (eldest been away for uni, lovelife etc) very well for the past 5 years. Only one thing went wrong (loose parking sensor) which was fixed under warranty. We've packed it up with the boot full and a roof box to go to green parks in Holland on holiday (self catering chalets) or for camping in UK with massive 6 person tent. Swallows all that up no problem. 2 ciggie chargers front and rear for phones or tablets. AUX socket for Ipod or similar. These are necessary for journeys with kids to keep them happy with their technology!

Just took the 2014 model for a test drive yesterday and it's just as good but with bluetooth, 2xUSB, leather/suede upholstery and with a better 2.0 diesel engine with a 6th gear for motorways/autobahns (I know you want petrol but I'm comparing it with mine). Have signed up for this but now looking at personal leasing options (hence why I'm on MSE).

So it lugged us all over the UK and Holland returning 50+ mpg per tank (best I've seen was 63mpg on a north to south UK journey, drops to high 40's in winter when I'm warming it up on the drive).

It is a fantastic car and better than my brother in law's 57 Mondeo Titanium estate

Whatever my next car is, if I'm buying (as oppsed to provided through work) it will be a Skoda

Whatever you do don't get a qashqai with an automatic gearbox. The car has a major problem with these gearboxes that Nissan can't fix.

Just do a search on qashqaiownersclub and look at the Engine & Drivetrain section. It is a total horror story.

I have a C-Max 2.0 Turbo Diesel auto: Loads of interior space, big boot, and 140 PS means that the overtaking power is there when I need it. Alternatively, driven sensibly or on motorway/dual carriageway journeys, MPG is very good. And it's very comfortable. Same engine is in versions of the Kuga, a much heavier car. I actually had a C-Max 2.0 Petrol Auto, the diesel does not feel any slower, but ignores hills in a way the petrol did not.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
