Octavia vs Qashqai?
Comments

Have you taken either car for a test drive? My preference would be the Octavia as it has a huge amount of space in the boot which I found made it very practical for loading up.

Have you looked at teh Fabia estate?
There's loads of room, a good sized boot and good mpg.0 -
Toyota Verso? Lots of boot space, and the 1.8l petrol auto is great fun to drive - not the best mpg, but life's too short to be bored whilst driving, and it's always good having that extra power for when you need it, particularly with a full car.
it was definitely top of my list when looking for a new family car last year.0 -
I can only say about the diesel Octavia, but that was a fantastic car and excellent value for money. Loads of room in the passenger compartment, and I have my seat quite far back and people commented when they were in the back as to the amount of space they had. The boot was enormous as well. Pleasant to drive.0

Thank you for all your responses. I think we have no choice but to go for Petrol as we will only be travelling around 8k-10k miles per year with mostly short trips during the week (we have been advised by garages to only go for diesel if we would be travelling more than 15k miles a year...
What do you all think of the new pegeot 308 SW (estate)?
Ideally for the misses the main 3 areas she requires is -
1. Space for rear seats and boot space
2. Economy for city driving with plenty of stop/start
3. Ideally be higher up for putting children into car sears
For me -
1. Power
2. Tech
3. Design
Obviously my reasons are not practical so I am willing to compromise on my first choice and the the design to a certain degree...London, UK0 -
I have a petrol 1.4 TSI (the TSI bit is important) Octavia which I have found to be the ideal family car. Big boot as you have noted. Mines manual as it was cheaper than the DSG box but if I had town driving I would want the auto.
It is plenty fast enough if you spin it up a bit (0 to 62 mph is 8.1 seconds). Its easy to get 40mpg out of it even when going faster than you should on the Motorway.0 -
I run a 1.8 tsi Octavia and can't fault it - for a big, fast car it's very economical on fuel and insurance. Not at it's best in urban areas though - I often have to drive past parking spaces that I know a smaller car could have got into.
Someone else mentioned a fabia estate and I still miss that a bit - the boot was the same size and the 1.9tdi engine was amazing. I think that combination stopped around 2010 though0 -
Does it have to be new?
I'd be looking at an older full size auto estate (Mondeo, X-Type, 3/5 series, Vectra, etc). Fuel economy won't be great (but in an auto petrol in town not much will be), it'll give you your power and satisfy all the other options.0 -
Renault VS VW basically.
You do not have to be a genius to work out which will last longest.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
I've got a 1.2 petrol Octavia DSG estate. It drives fine and much quicker than my previous 1.6 focus even fully loaded. Real world mpg low 40s. 7 speed DSG box is fantastic. I got a 0% PCP and 3 years free servicing deal. The rear leg room is great and the boot is massive. The new Octavia is based on VAGs MQB platform (Golf Mk. 7, Audi A3 and Seat Leon I think) but a fair bit cheaper.
Funnily enough I did look at a Qashqai. Small boot and plasticky interior and looks quite dated now. No comparison IMO.My PV system: South West England, 10x 250Wp Trina Solar panels, Fronius Inverter, South facing roof, 35° pitch with no shading.0
