  • On that budget you'd be better looking North.

Moving South = more like a one bedroom flat, than a 3 bedroom house imo.
  • Hubby has a job here so cant move up North. Looking around Swindon areas so far looks promising. Just wondered of there are any other towns worth a look at?

I don't know Swindon anymore (alas?) but my Aunt used to live there back in the day.

Bits are alright, bits are... rough! (including where my Aunt lived :D)

However, that also means I don't count Swindon as proper South ;) If you're in that area there's also Cheltenham that's alright. You'll have the same problem there though, anything 3 bed in that price range will be... well, you might want to rent in the area for six months first before buying, just to check what you're walking into ;)

Highworth near Swindon is nice, but you will need about £150k for a 3 bed.

Some areas in Swindon are vile, with some really rough schools (if you have kids to consider)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Rather than just saying "south", which could be anywhere from Penzance to Norwich (and more), why don't you tell us where your husband's job is and how far he would be prepared to travel each day to get to it?
  • Hubbys job is just outside Newbury.

Like with any area in the country, if you wanna pay less, you will generally have to settle for a rougher area.

EG; a 2 bed semi detached house near me costs about £145,000-£160,000, but in a town full of sink estates, a high crime rate, and chavs, a 2 bed semi can be purchased for half that.

I did a search: dunno if it is any help, or what these areas are like.

Hopefully people who live around those areas can advise better. :)

Edited to say: scroll down, as a couple of properties down, it starts to list houses. :)

AND ALSO, have you thought about renting privately down there for say a year??? Just so you get a feel for the place, and then you can establish for yourself, what areas are good and what areas are not so good. (Before you buy...)
