Here is what I would say :
Out of kindness and goodwill I might have been prepared to contribute to the repair on the understanding this was goodwill, I have no legal right to do anything as it was a private sale and worked fine when you bought the car which is 12 years old.

However, you have threatened me with this fast track court threat and I do not take kindly to anyone threatening me and as a result you lady have put your foot in your mouth by threatening me.
I pay in to a legal scheme at work, I have taken Legal advice from my solicitors , they will meet your legal expert dad at any court in this country as soon as he can get a court date.
That is what happens when you think you can threaten people, if you wanted a car with a warranty, you should have bought one from a garage and preferable on not 12 years old.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

I can't understand why her father, neighbour and mechanic didn't share their wisdom and experience before the buyer parted with her money.

Do not engage further with her, OP. You're being taken for a ride. Next time you're in touch tell her you wish her well but you will now stop communicating as you owe her nothing.

Literally just received a text saying she's put it in writing and could she have my email address.

Wondering if it makes sense to have this in hand before I speak to my legal adviser tomorrow?

No! Do not respond to her communications in any form, or give her more ways to harass you. If she wants to use the SC process, let her, and wait for the paperwork. It'll never arrive.
You don't need legal advice, as she has no case whatsoever.

^^^^^ It took the OP of this thread 9 pages and over 150 replies not to take the good advice of folk and paid the new owners of their secondhand car cash for no reason.

Hopefully the OP of this thread will do a bit better.

    Morning folks.

I did get a long message in writing from the buyer this morning too via electronic means) which actually has some inconsistencies in it.

Regarding the apparant issue with reverse, they are now claiming it's dangerous if they were caught behind an accident (car on fire).

I spoke to CAB and the legal advice line via work called me back and re-read their message back to both of them too. Both of whom supported me as you've all said and informed me I have no legal obligation.

    Thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't let it worry you further and get on with your life.

    Good work.
