I think I payed early hours as I have checked around midnight before and it wasn't in but was in later. Sometimes we need to know its going in at a certain time due to direct debits and bills that are taken from bank. Their times can be different to pay day times.

Although it is helpful to make sure there's a reserve amount of money or plan your money so you know you have that to pay bills.

When I start my new job il be going from weekly to monthly pay so I'm putting cash into my other account to save up and when bills are coming up to transfer that money back to the original account. If it was just in my normal account I would spend it

I get paid when my boss remembers. He 'guarantees' it will be with us on the 1st for our 'standard' pay and the 6th for our 'overtime' pay. We almost always get it on the 26th of the month, as a hangover from when it could take up to 3 days to clear through accounts! In practice this means we get it any time on the 26th, nowadays. But sometimes he forgets and it's 27th or so. And the second payment can come in anytime between the 5th and the latest I think we ever had it was a month after!

I just set my bills to go out on the 1st, to be sure it'll be there :) I'd never trust it to be in for the 26th!

HSBC don't process their payments going to other banks until at least 8.30, it's often much later. This payday my salary didn't hit my Lloyds account until nearly lunchtime. You may think it's just my employers being late with the payments but as I personally make the payments and I always do it several days in advance, it's definitely HSBCs fault! Annoyingly Lloyds processes all my standing orders and dd's at midnight so I get text warnings every payday telling me I've massively gone into overdraft!

Get paid on the 20th of each month - usually comes in any time from midnight to 2/3AM. Always been fully paid when I wake up. If payday happens to fall on a weekend or bank holiday, then I get paid the working day before that.

Its just annoying I cant make plans on payday because I don't know when I get paid.

Regardless of what time you get paid, I think the real issue here is that you need to try and budget a little better and then this wouldn't be a problem at all.
  • Thanks for your replies.

My colleagues and I got paid at 11:30PM on Friday night. I am not the only one annoyed with the time we are getting paid each month.

I just wanted to see if it was normal to be paid so late on payday. But as someone said aslong as its on the day its ok.

    Thanks again

Have you actually asked the person who makes the payment what time they are doing it? It sounds to me like they're leaving it until the end of the day, in which case suggest to them that everyone would prefer it if they could find some time earlier in the day to make the payments.

    Exactly!

Yes, of course an employer should pay on the agreed day (which is seems they do in this case) but to run finances so tight that there is no room for even the slightest error is crazy and frankly irresponsible.

Theoretically, if an employee is paid later than their contract allows and, as a result, suffers some unavoidable loss then the employer is liable. However, this is not something you really want to rely on!

If I were you I'd be treating pay day as the day after, and negotiating with my bills for the due date to be the following date.

I bank with santander and have noticed my wages go in between 2100 and 2330 the evening before they are due. It's down to when santander reboot their next days banking. My contractual pay date is 25th, but my money is always available by around 2330 at latest on 24th, but often earlier.
Your wages seem to be paid within this timeframe which possibly implies he is setting it to pay you a day later than you expect.
