  • I have 2 UUs to report:

The White Company Seychelles Hand and Body Lotion. This was a gift and it smelled nice and wasn't too greasy.

MAC Matchmaster Foundation. This did a reasonably good job but I will go back to buying Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse, as I like it and it is much cheaper.
Thank you to everyone who posts on here :)

    Hello everyone! :)

Sorry that I've missed so much. A happy belated birthday to Dolly! In answer to your question from ages ago, the Lily-Flame candles burn very evenly (one of the reasons I like them so much). I was given two as a present and the other two I bought in Waitrose. They seem to have a good website and Amazon stock them as well :) I'm currently battling a L'Occitane candle which smells lovely but burns very badly. It was a present and I WNB a candle from them judging by this one.

I've been reading along but have been down and out with a bug and am still recovering. I have some INs and OUTs to declare. A couple of days ago I started watching YouTube videos again and it made me want to buy new make-up! :wall: In an attempt to stop the craving I've just sorted all of my make-up into categories and then selected what I most wanted to use this month. TBH I'm kind of half way through this scheme and have run out of energy for now...

    OUTs first

Naobay Cream Cleanser (50ml) - WMBA as it cleaned my skin really well and left it soft and matte. Prob not as good as my HG Decleor Aroma Cleanse though.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Scrub (75ml) - WNBA. Didn't get on with the scent.

Vichy Thermal S Mat sachet - used to be an HG but WNBA now.

Bliss Fabulous Every Day Eye Cream (15ml) - WNBA as nothing special

Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel (125ml) - LHJ! Very :money:. Loved the scent but WNBA as I prefer the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cream Cleanser.

L'Oreal Ever Riche Nourishing Intense Mask (tub) - WNBA as it didn't do much.

Garnier Miracle Sleeping Cream sachet - WNB as it left my skin feeling horribly greasy. Glad I had a sample to test!

Agave Hair Oil (5ml?) - WNB. Same as all the others!

Rituals Fortune Scrub (150ml) - WBA as it smells great and has a very fine but effective grit in it. Also lasted for a long time :)

Electric Hydrate Shampoo (30ml) - WNB as it dried my hair out.

Janjira Argan Oil Hand Wash (50ml) - WNB as it's expensive and felt sticky.

The INs are mainly hair related (and were all half price so I'm pleased and cross with myself at the same time :rotfl:):

    L'Oreal Extraordinary Oil
L'Oreal Ultra Riche Replenishing and Taming Shampoo
L'Oreal Extraordinary Oil Nourishing Mask Balm
Garnier Ultimate Blends 1 Minute Polishing Scrub

Dr Salts Muscle Therapy Dead Sea Salts (1kg)
Radox Muscle Soak Bath Therapy Salts (400g)

Balance Me Face Mask (30ml Glamour freebie)

    An unexpected UU to declare:

Aussie Dry Shampoo Volume - at first I didn't like the, but it grew on me more and more, until the other morning when it finished and I found myself quite sad :rotfl: WMBA

    Products down to : 48

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.

I've a couple of questions I'd like to ask if no-one minds - all answers gratefully appreciated.

    1. I seem to be quite old to be trying to set up a skin care regime, and have really only started to find myself using products in the last few months (bought over the years when friends have declared them 'must haves' but not/hardly used). I still have loads I'm struggling to include in it, so it's making me wonder what products (types) people use on a regular basis and how often?

At the moment my morning is foaming facial wash plus soap (for other body areas), unless I shower when it becomes shower gel, shampoo and conditioner (with the addtion - at the end of last year - of a small amount of argan oil to the ends as they were getting very dry). I then use a moisuriser if I'm staying home or around the local town, or a day cream with SPF if I'm going further afield and spending most of my time outside. Plus a thick moisturiser on the dry skin on my elbows, and a quck squirt of a body spray (shower days it's talc, perfume to match the shower gel, and the thick moisturiser). At night I use a toner to remove all the daily grime (I've used that for a number of years, and find that if I don't I get outbreaks of spots!) and apply a night cream, normally plus the thick moisturiser on my elbows. I'm also trying to make sure I use hand cream morning, night and when I remember during the day (an addition a couple of months back). My latest addition is a lip salve to try and stop myself chewing off dead skin (seems to be working :)) Other than that I use hair removal cream every couple of months (all my underarms seem to need), and hair dye every 3 months (or less frequently).

    2. At what age would you consider introducing a girl to a skin regime? My eldest GD will be 12 in August and the next will be 10 next month. We struggled to come up with ideas as to what I could get them last Christmas, so I've been debating whether a 'starter kit' might be an option, but wouldn't know what to include. I was brought up on a soap, bubble bath/shower gel, shampoo and conditioner regime (which my Mum still seems to follow), so my kids were brought up the same way. I think that's pretty much where my DD still is, and is certainly still all my GDs use (I take them on holiday once a year).

cw18 what is your skin type before using any products ? dry, oily, combo, or normal?

That's your starting point. I'm personally between sensitive-normal-dry so the less messing, for me, the better. I just make sure my skin can absorb the moisturiser I choose, and stick to a basic routine of water + bamboo cloth + cleanser + toner in the evening, and *whispers* just water in the morning.
Honestly, if your toner is picking up dirt after cleansing, then you need to switch cleansers, or start double cleansing at least. My cleanser takes everything off (including makeup) in one go - totally clean - not a dash of smudged mascara - and makes my skin feel normal (not tight or squeaky). I use the tropic skincare cleanser usually. I miss it dearly right now, while I'm finishing the miccelar water!

Here's an update of my stash list. I'm down -20 net since I began, but since I've bought a couple of things and had quite a few beauty gifts for christmas in reality I've used up quite a lot more. The bits marked as 0 quantity were INs... I'm copying from my spreadsheet which has more columns calculating the INs vs. OUTs :o

cw18 what is your skin type before using any products ? dry, oily, combo, or normal?
Honestly don't know. I sometimes get a slightly oily forehead (especially during the warmer months), but other than that nothing distinctive.
Honestly, if your toner is picking up dirt after cleansing, then you need to switch cleansers, or start double cleansing at least.
I don't use anything before the toner. If I do it makes my skin feel dry in places (guess the combination is too much), but if I use something other than the toner I get spots on my forehead, chin and nose. I don't wear makeup, so all it's removing is whichever cream I put on in the morning plus grime that's settled on top of that.

EDIT : I possibly used a bad description. Some of the bottles I use at night have the word 'toner' on them, so I tend to shorten to that. But they are cleansing lotions as well. The one I'm using at the moment is this one, though I got it from a cheaper source ;)

cw18 - if your skin feels fine then I'd stick to the routine that you have. Maybe you're really lucky and have normal skin? :) My Mum is an absolute minimalist when it comes to skin care and she has beautiful skin. I, only the other hand, have to work quite hard to keep mine in check! (I have sensitive skin that tends towards being oily and sometimes spot prone.)

I would have loved some guidance on skincare when I was around 12-13 years old. Maybe you could buy the 12 year old a little travel kit of gentle products so she can see if there's anything that she likes? She may have no interest/need for anything yet but it would be a thoughtful gift. Maybe something like this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MFF8Q2M/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000T97U96&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0386YR133J0A985T12SK

I couldn't find a Simple travel kit on the Boots website but they might have them in store? If I could go back in time I'd probably stick to natural products as much as possible but I do think Simple products are nice and gentle and won't mess her skin up.

I have a few more UUs after my bath :D

Elemis Frangipani Monoi Shower Cream (50ml) - I love this scent but I wouldn't buy it unless it was in a value kit.

Imperial Leather Soft Touch Moisturising Bath Cream (500ml) - WNBA as I'm not keen on the scent and am switching to SLS free bubble bath.

Champneys Spa Indulgence Exotic Retreat Bubble Heaven (400ml) - WNBA as I didn't like the scent.

Melvita Rose Floral Water (28ml) - WMBA as it's very nice and simple and comes in a handy refillable spray bottle.

Another unbranded mango candle - WMBA if I knew where it came from.

    Night night!

Probably a fair chance they will in the lead up to Christmas - and I have about £45 of points I never use  I get them for buying glasses / contact lenses, but you can't spend them in the Optician area and that's the only thing I go there for (I find them very expensive for everyday toiletries, and can't even bring myself to buy them using points  not that I'm likely to need any everyday toiletries for at least a couple of years :rotfl:).

At the moment I'm considering using them for an 0pium gift set for myself come December - my favourite fragrance, but one I can't justify spending on. They had a couple of good value sets last December, but I still have an almost full bottle that I've only recently started using most weekends - it was my 'put away for best' item, with best only coming around once a year or so :naughty:

cw18 - I had a bit more of a think. The things that I'd miss from my routine which are 'extras' are a gentle exfoliator, rosehip or mixed oil, eye cream and some kind of serum. Non of these are necessary but all help my skin. I find serum and oil more effective than most conventional moisturisers - they are light so don't upset/overload my skin. I need a decent eye cream after years of using contact lenses and tugging the skin around my eye twice daily (still on the hunt for a good one!) If I don't exfoliate in some way then my skin gets clogged and spotty. I'm more likely to exfoliate (it's quicker) but I do use face masks for the same reason. If you'd like any recommendations then I can share what I use but my skin might be very different to yours. Do you have any specific concerns? Xx
