One of my pet hates too.
I will never park in a disabled bay, but P&C are fair game whilst they allow my car not to be scratched and me to get out without rubbing alongside the filthy car next door to get myself into the shop.

The general conclusion of this thread is that supermarkets should make spaces larger for all and that P&Cs do not have anymore right than anyone else to be nearest the store.

P&C spaces are, IMHO, a marketing ploy.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

P&C spaces are a marketing ploy, and have no legal bearing whatsoever.

Since it just seem to be only supermarket car parks that have spawned P&C spaces, how do people manage when the have to use a 'normal' car park that only has standard and disabled spaces?

Retail parks often have P&C spaces too. But yes - the rest of your post stands.

Happy to correct you on all your points.

You mustn't make such daft assumptions.

Wasn't me making daft, sweepying statements was it?

I pointed out the massive holes in your initial post. Sorry you took if badly. Perhaps you shouldn't make such daft assumptions in future? ;)

Also, you completely failed to actually address the points made when you tried your sarcastic response. Probably best if you don't bother in future. You clearly aren't very good at it :) I know of at least two car parks where the P&C spaces do lead straight to a pavement so you have 'corrected' nothing. What a terrible shame for you.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

You didn't and I didn't. Try reading your post again

No idea why you think it is a "shame" for me, as I am not bothered one way or the other.

I was correcting nothing I was pointing out that I knew of places that didn't fit your ideal for P&C spaces. Just examples that is all.

As for your comment about being around P&C spaces too much I don't know what prompted that, and you appear to have chosen to ignore my question, but then if you don't understand your own posts I suppose I won't have much chance to do so either.

That was not a sarcastic comment either.

I'm quite saddened by peoples attitudes. Whether the spaces are a marketing ploy or not, whether it's legal to use them or not, leave them for people who might need them more than you.

It's all common decency really, like standing up and letting a pregnant woman or an elderly person take your seat on the bus.

As I've stated above, I have qualifying kids, and don't use the spaces as I wouldn't feel good with myself if I pinched the last space from a young mother struggling with a newborn and an exciteable toddler.

Well, my kids are 27 and 31 now, but I can well remember parking the car and fighting with child seats, buggies etc (although back then buggies and child seats were light and easy to handle, not the massive, over-engineered things they are today). We didn't have P&C spaces then, and I can't remember ever feeling deprived. As far as I can see, it's just an enticement from the supermarkets and retail parks to get a high-spending demographic in through the doors.

I wonder if the existence of the blue badge scheme is somewhat to blame. People seem to view P&C spaces as somehow equivalent to disabled spaces - similar positions, similar signage - but whereas the blue badge scheme has a long-standing legal basis far beyond a retail car park, the P&C spaces are simply a supermarket chain's decision on where to put the white lines to maximise their footfall.

Having said that, I have never parked in one, as I can see the benefit for parents in having them, and I prefer to park far away and walk in any case. Live and let live, and all that.
