    Hi guys,
    That's right savvysue - I was amazed.

As I skimmed the dairy intolerance article, it mentioned that it is not uncommon for people who have a dairy intolerance to have a latex or rubber allergy too, which is true in my case and it mentioned vegan condoms instead. Surprised me! You can even find dairy derivatives in some skin care products.

Food allergies can really only be accurately diagnosed by a medically supervised exclusion diet. It's your gp's job to help you find the answers best for you. ;)

I don't think anyone would make a blanket statement saying that all conditions are linked to 'x' allergies for all people - eg. not everyone with eczema will be allergic to dairy products.

The article educated me as to the non-edible things that can be a trigger and also to what allergies might be linked together. I hope this has helped explain my post keely.
So apologies if necessary, but as I've explained, I just thought it might be of interest to people.
    Much Love,

Try making smoothie milkshakes with the soya milk to hide the taste? Also calcium from the other food groups like Fortified Orange Juice, fortified Cereal, Spinach...

Both my girls grew out of it. One at two and one a three. We still watch what they get in the way of dairy, and are always ready with the piriton syrup. Why don't you ask the doctor for the "milk challenge". The consultant could tell us that my daughter would grow out of it.....and strangely enough that she was allergic to nuts and tomato sauce!!!! I'm so glad she was right as it's really difficult eating out, and heart breaking seeing your wee one covered in eczema.

You're not the only one hun!
    The mind boggles.

It's obviously a serious subject to those it affects. Oh help! - that would include me I've got the dairy and the latex/rubber allergies!!! (faint!)

Should I ever enter a serious relationship and thinks get serious, how on earth do I ask my partner if he's got a vegan condom?!!!
Must check out the Asda shelves - just in case! lol

So anyway, how do I become a nun? ;)

    Hi libby,
I've also heard that young children can outgrow some allergies sometimes.
The ironic thing is that my DS (only child) had severe colic for the first 6 months of his life and we found out that he was allergic to the baby powder formula. The gp put him on a prescription for soya milk powder instead and it worked wonders within a couple of days.
But DS shows no sign of any dairy intolerance and he's 17 now. Fingers crossed he never will as food allergies can totally change your life.

i find getting info from the web first arms me with more ammunition for the GPS who dont know everything and even prescribe wrong things! i dont believe everything doctors say!!! and there are good and bad and average doctors - the same as good/bads builders!

WHY WILL YOU NOT CONSULT YOUR GP OR HEALTH VISITOR ABOUT THIS? Excuse me for shouting, but an Internet Forum is NOT the best place for getting advice about something as important as this to your daughter's future health and well-being!

I know that living with eczema is hell, but my DH has just been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I have no idea whether the exclusion diets he was on as a child are partly responsible for this, but I do know that my GP was very supportive when I did not introduce milk or dairy into my children's diets before they were a year old in the hope of avoiding eczema - and he prescribed a calcium supplement for them!

  • I tried the Alpro soya milk and found it hard to adjust to. I'm not lactose intolerant or anything, but after reading up on all the stuff that is in cows milk, i wanted to change.

Asdas own Soy milk tastes so much better than the Alpro stuff.

But my favourite, and most cost effective soy milk love is chocolate soy milk which I regularly purchase from Aldi. You'll find it in the chiller cabinet with the other milks and cheeses. It tastes amazing and is cheap too!
