soya or rice milk. what are suggestions of other things she could drink instead. it seems to be helping her with her eczema - she starts to itch otherwise. i am also worried that she will not have enough of a dairy intake. what about something like goat's powdered milk - is it a very strong test? she still likes milk before going to bed. thanks

how old is she?
I'd keep trying with the soya - there are lots of different ones (although watch out for those with added sugar/fat etc) and some are better than others in different circumstances (ie hot, cold etc). It can take several tastes before it becomes palatable (isn't it something like 15 introductions to a new food?). In the mean time I'd look at things like soya yogurts as they don't taste any different (imo) and are a good calcium source.0 -

I'm sure the vegans on the board will be able to offer better advice as to which 'milks' are nicest - I think quite a few of them like Asda own brand but I don't know enough about them to know what the differences are. I suspect goats milk will be too strong a flavour for her but you might want to try it.0

Have you tried a few different brands of soy/rice milk because they do vary quite alot. I couldn't stand the generic supermarket ones but the So Good and Alpro light ones that comes in the chiller have a vague coconut taste about them which makes it much more pleasant to drink. Their chocolate milk is fab too
Goats milk does tatse quite strong compared to cows milk, more of an acidic taste, same with sheeps milk.
There is also oat milk, almond and hazelnut milk which may taste a bit nicer (haven't tried them myself). Its really a bit of trial and error to find one your daughter likes but it may prove a bit expensive to try them.
Do you think your daughter would maybe drink a thinnish smoothie instead which might disguise the taste but not be heavy enough to stop her sleeping?0 -
My 3 year old didn't bat an eyelid when I switched him to goat's milk. It's apparently better than cow's milk for people who are asthmatic and as eczema is of the same family it might be worth a try. He also loves the St Helen's range of yogurts with honey or strawberry and vanilla. I have problems with cheese tho' as goats cheese is strong. I just up his milk and yogurt intake.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Organic oat milk is lovely, well recommended + the eoat fibre is good for digestion. However, the taste is very different from normal cow's milk.
Not tried hazelnumt milk, sounds nice tho'.
Still be careful with soya milk, it dosen't agree with everyone.0 -

I second the organic oat milk suggestion... Tesco's definitely stock it. I have just started a dairy free diet myself for health reasons and it is the only 'milk' that works for me both on cereal & in tea.
Personally I am very anti soya milk and have found lots of resources that explain why it isn't suitable for human consumption, especially in the quantities that using it to replace cows milk require (i.e daily). If you are going to use it please buy organic, as soya is grown & treated with alot of chemicals... and the consequences of people, let alone kids, consuming those on a regular basis are not truly known. It also contains plant oestrogens and without more evidence I personally don't think it is worth the risks, we just don't know how that could unbalance a developing female body.
As with anything I think that moderation is the key. I'm sure organic soya milk once or twice a week wouldn't do any serious harm. But personally i'd err on the side of caution... oat and rice milk have no known health implications whatsoever.0
