Admiral's Insurance feedback

  • Admiral and sister companies tends to be cheap and cheerful cover, for Motor at least. Long waits to get to speak to them on the phone but always happy/ chatty when you get through (probably related to the wait).

Is in the minority with no new car replacement clause so possibly not appropriate if you've just bought a brand new car, or at least a risk to consider.

Renewals they will always discount by 20-30% just simply by you saying you've found it cheaper else where without any form of fight. From a business point of view its obvious why they do it but its annoying dance to be done each year.

Only had one claims exp with them which was a fault claim with no TP claim made against me. Was painless enough but arguably that was as much by the fact my chosen garage took control of the claim and so avoided me needing to deal with them post the notification.

Obviously for non-fault claims they have a bad habit of palming claims off to Albany Assistance to get their referral fees without much explanation and great resistance to provide cover if people do read up on credit hire etc and decide they dont want to go that route

I had a non fault accident while insured with Admiral, and they - and Albany - were great. This was about 3 years ago, and I have renewed with them every time since.

They do come out the cheapest for my multicar on comparison, but the renewal is always more expensive. They're easy to negotiate down though, as InsideInsurance says.
  • A few years ago was the first time I ever had to insure a car myself. Admiral came back cheapest.

I have to say I was very happy with them. I was always able to get through on the phone quickly when I needed to speak to them and the advisers I spoke to were very helpful when I had a query about the extras I opted for on my policy.

I then had somebody drive in to the back of my car & again Admiral were great throughout the whole process. I didn't have to chase to find out what was happening at any stage, they were always updating me either in writing or sometimes just a quick phone call if they had a question & I had a like for like car while mine was being repaired. This is compared with a recent insurance company I used who replaced my BMW with a Nissan Micra when again somebody drove in to the back of me.

The only reason I didn't renew my policy with Admiral was because in my second year they came out a lot more expensive than some of the other companies I'd got quotes from. I think I would have stayed with them if there wasn't a huge difference, but the difference was nearly £1,000.00 between Admiral & the policy I went with.

I would definitely recommend Admiral as I was impressed with their service every time I dealt with them.
  • Cheap policy initially. Watch the increase on renewal.

The cheapness is offset by charges for changes and quite a picky set of T&C's. Read the policy documentation thoroughly, especially the significant exclusion items.

How good the policy and the company are only comes to light when you claim so read up on the Internet and MSE Forum for stories on Admiral and Albany experiences. Remember that Bell, Diamond and Elephant are all part of the same group.

I found their customer service incompetent at times with lost phone recordings, inappropriate letters, breaking Data Protection rules.

I won't be returning to Admiral. I have found a far better alternative with excellent customer service. price and policies.

That wasnt Admiral but Albany and that car was given to you on credit.

The fact you dont even realise you were dealing with another company nor the fact you were entering into a credit agreement with Albany I would argue is worrying (arguably from more than one perspective)
  • Just curious as to why MSE are interested in feedback from just this one insurer?

    This is the norm though

    What is the norm?

    That Albany are used?
That insurers pass to credit hire and repairs?
That people sign things without reading?

I saw it as a bit of spam, a way to advertise without having an actual advert.
