It sounds like she may be in an area that is now covered by Universal Credit
Is she in one of these areas

If you’re claiming other benefits
You can claim Universal Credit instead of:
Jobseeker’s Allowance
Housing Benefit
Working Tax Credit
Child Tax Credit
Employment and Support Allowance
Income Support
You can’t receive tax credits at the same time as Universal Credit.0 -

sorry only just seen your post.....
they've told her to ring UC today but ultimately she will be claiming jsa ?
Hi OP,
Tell your GF to have a look at http://www.turn2us.org.uk/grants_search.aspx.
She can search it for grants for which she may be eligible; it's very helpful. Also, are there any local charities that help people in the community where she lives? There is one in my town and if you are struggling and meet their criteria they'll help very quickly. Maybe some info. in her local library (if they haven't shut it down)?
I think it's great that you are concerned and seeking advice for her, you must be a very decent guy!
Hope all turns out well. x0 -
Hi all. I quit my job about 6 months ago and was wondering if I put a claim in now, will I be sanctioned? Will there be any worries since it has been 6 months since I voluntarily left my job? I am asking because I was told Id be sanctioned for 6 months had I put a claim once I left my job. What would I need to say? Thanks!
Who said what? your best option is to get a temp job even if it lasts a week or so then you can legitimately *try* and get back into the system, if eligible
You always appeal any sanction, I may consider doing this myself with a temporary job that just isn't worth it financially to be honest so we're all in this together, I've no ideal what the government are going to do when people can't support themselves in work alone0 -
If she is just being made redundant, she will get her final pay check when she leaves work - and most firms now pay 4 weekly - so what difference will there be from receiving her normal wages? Or has she waited until she stopped working before registering?0

Did she not get any redundancy pay?
That's the first thing that came to my mind. Also holiday owed? Is she paid weekly or monthly currently? Surely she is paid in arrears, so she will at worse have a week to fall back on, at best a month's worth of salary before she gets her benefits backdated?0 -
She can apply for an advance payment for her JSA. They don't like doing this but there is provison for it. She might like to visit her CAB office to check up on all this, especially if she is a UC area - although I didn't think they were rolling it out for families yet.0

OP, get your partner to ring 0435 608 8545 a& enquire about a short term benefit advance (STBA)
Crisis loans have gone, but the STBA is what's there to help you until your first benefit payments comes through if you fit the eligibility criteria.
Your partners 'working' tax credit will stop, but she is still eligible for the 'child' tax credit. But as others have said, if you're in a universal credit area, it will change things.
Contact your local authority/council regarding food bank vouchers. Google it in your area also as several other organisations now offer food bank services also. It varies region to region. Please be nice to all moneysavers!
