Barclays bank problem

They made a mistake, they noticed it, they want their money back. Can't see what the problem is. Mistakes do happen.0

The question is, what has happened to that £10K since Barclays paid it in? What is the current credit balance on that card? Presumably if the card was cancelled prior to this deposit being made then you will have made no purchases, so the money should still be there. If you have, in some way, managed to extract it to an account of your own then now is the time to repay it Barclays.
To be honest, I'm not sure why Barclays are even asking you, I would have thought they would just take the money back- if that resulted in a debit balance on the card though your subsequent actions which you then owe them, well so be it.0 -
So, it sounds like they paid in a sum of money to the Barclaycard account, in error.
You clearly hadn't noticed that the money was in the account, prior to being advised of it.
I'm surprised that they are asking for your permission to take the funds back again.
All you need to do is tell them 'yes, I authorise you to take the money back'
They made a mistake, now they want to correct it.
In answer to your question, no this has not happened to me, but after a lifetime of working in banks, I know that accidents happen.
It's no big conspiracy theory or mystery, just tell them they can have their money back
That should be the end of the story....unless you haven't told us the whole story!Early retired - 18th December 2014

. . . and have you lent people large sums of money without asking them if they want it.
Im not saying its a conspiracy I just think its strange. If I lent someone 10k without them asking for it I would let them know immediately. Oh no, I wouldn't actually I would sake them if they wanted it or wait till they asked.0 -
A year ago my card was cancelled due to alleged fraudulent activity.
What happened with the alleged fraud? Was there any monies spent or goods purchased with the card?
Only asking as it could be the the bank was forced to refund fraudulent payments, closed the card down and are now demanding those monies back.0 -

You weren't lent this money.
They paid a sum of money into your account in error

I doubt you will ever get an answer that satisfies you - not here nor on the phone to Barclays.
You need to move this to writing. Find their address for complaints on their website. Then write to the complaints manager but in clearer terms than you have written here. Just set out a simple timeline, and keep all emotion and "I feel..." lines out of it. Eg.
17th Dec 2014 Your xxx dept contacted me by phone stating that my visa card 12344312314124234 had been credited with £9999
18th Dec 2014 etc
20th Dec I paid this money back to account xxxxxx
Please explain this sequence of events and any effects to my credit file.0 -
OP, have you spent the 9999.99 that Barclays "loaned you" without your permission ? If you have then you have to pay it back. No amount of writing letters will change that.0

Without my request or consent, Barclays bank took 10k from their own sources and paid it to my barclaycard. I was not contacted and informed until 11 months later. None of the Barclays representative have been able to tell me why they did this.
Seriously?
You expect people to believe that you did not notice or do anything about this for 11 months? You did not notice that 10K had been put onto your Barclaycard and phone them and query this at the time?
Incredible.0 -
Although 10k might be a lot of money to the average person, to Barclays it is peanuts. Tea money.
Did you spend the money or did it pay off any debts on the card?0
