Barclays bank problem

This is my first post, sorry if it is in the wrong forum.
A very Brief outline
I had a phone call from Barclays in the middle of December telling me that they had paid my barclaycard 9999.99 (without my authorisation) in January (almost a year ago) and I now need to pay them back.
I'm just wondering if any one has ever heard of anything like this happening before. Are banks allowed to lend you money without telling you?

So your Barclaycard was used to spend monies to the sum of £9999.99?
They are not lending money without telling you, you have applied for the card and you are responsible for what is spent on the card providing the transactions are not fraudulent.0 -
Or are you saying that Barclay's credited your card with £9999.99 and as a result you haven't had to pay for any of the spending you've done on the card since then as you've always had a positive balance, and that Barclays are now asking you to make that payment?
If this is what you're trying to tell us, then I find it highly unlikely to have happened and without more evidence that it's true I'm saying no more.0 -

I did not think it was possible to have credit on a Barclaycard? That would be weird if Barclays has done that.
I assumed the OP had spent all this money on his card and maxed it out. Hence the £9999.99.0 -
What do the statements say?0

So, the OP spent 9999.99 and is now querying whether they have to pay it back ? If a bank loaned me 9999.99 without my knowledge, i sure as hell wouldn't have spent it !0

Sorry I didn't explain it properly.
A year ago my card was cancelled due to alleged fraudulent activity. For some reason at this time barclays bank made a payment to my barclaycard of 9999.99. (There is no evidence that I tried to make this payment) from a suspense account. They called me in December to tell me this. No one at at any point had contacted me to ask if I wanted them to pay 10k on my behalf or ask me to authorise this payment. This is my issue with them. I just think its weird that they have done something like this without checking with me first. I have had countless phone calls with them trying to find out who authorised this and why. I hope this makes it a bit clearer. Im not trying to pull some kind of scam for those of you that made some of the comments. I just don't understand what happened.0 -
"missed words"? Missed sense, more like. What you are writing is still incomprehensible, and I still don't believe it. So if you want anyone to help you will need to explain in a way that can be understood, because you've failed to do that so far.0

Its very difficult to explain. This is a very peculiar situation and I have discussed it with many people. Everyone has said they have never heard anything like it. I was simply asking if anyone had ever had this done to them before.
Without my request or consent, Barclays bank took 10k from their own sources and paid it to my barclaycard. I was not contacted and informed until 11 months later. None of the Barclays representative have been able to tell me why they did this.
I can't explain it in more simple terms and beleive it or not, this is what happened.
If anyone has any more comments, please remember there is no need to be rude. I don't understand this situation either. That is why I asked.0
