cost to repair someones car

hi, just looking for some advice please, I had a small bump in the school car park this morning, totally my fault, I told the lady to let me know the cost of repair, which she has, however she is friendly with the guy doing the work, so worried im getting done. I know I can ask for another quote but really do I have a leg to stand on?

How much is this worth by not going via your insurer? A lot!

What is the car, damage and charge?

my excess is 250, cost is £180, its an original shape focus, it has a bump to bumper(no dent)just scrape and paint damage, apparently there is a crack in it and it needs to be too back to bone?

  • £180 sounds pretty reasonable to be fair.

Remember you don't pay an excess unless you are claiming for damage to your own vehicle in which case you'll pay your excess before you collect your car. Third party claims are subject to no excess.

Replacement bumper and spray plus labour then that's not bad, get your money out.
A guy hit my bumper it was just shy of £2k.
  • ah I see, sorry im a novice! ive just passed my test over a year so would rather avoid involving my insurance tbh?

£180 is VERY reasonable for a bumper repair as you have describe.

  • Be thankful they haven't requested a rental car whilst it's being repaired.

Loads of newish drivers have little bumps, hence why insurance is more expensive. So don't worry too much.

It should make you a better (more careful) driver from now on too.

A mate of mine bought his first car the day after passing his test, the next day he crashed it into a wall in a multiple level carpark. It cost a lot more that £180 to put right too.
