I think if I'm talking to them for 30 minutes whilst watching TV or eating lunch then that's 30 minutes that they are not scamming someone more gullible.
This is the way I see it as well :)

Out of interest how many times per day then are you prepared to do this?

My spare time is precious, I certainly wouldn't waste random half hour chunks of it on the phone to cold callers!

During a programme on our local radio about nuisance calls, a listener rang in and mentioned a gadget called True-Call. We got one and haven't had a single unwanted call on our landline since that day. Not one. We are in charge of who rings us.
Automated calls can't get through at all so we are spared the frightening silent calls too.
We shouldn't have to buy gadgets but nothing ever seems to change - the calls must bring in cash for the phone providers.
I'm sick of unwanted calls on my mobile and I'm going to text my provider every time I get one, make a nuisance of myself until they do something to stop them.

I'm quite disappointed to have never received one of these calls.

It depends what I am doing at the time. Sometimes I tell them I am Lobengulas long lost great, great, great grandson and I need help getting $50 million worth of long lost Matabele diamonds out of Zimbabwe. :)

Cold calls can be a nuisance for me but not a near £100 nuisance.

I tell them that I don't have a problem with the bit they're talking about but "while you're on, perhaps you can help me with something?" and then tell them about how I'm getting on at work, my family and what I've been doing for the last three months in minute detail. All of it is totally fictitious of course!

Out of interest how many times per day then are you prepared to [keep them talking for ages]?

My spare time is precious, I certainly wouldn't waste random half hour chunks of it on the phone to cold callers!
It's probably once a month or thereabouts - like I said when I'm watching TV over lunch and treat it as a bit of fun; maybe my time is just less valuable than yours.

They usually start getting suspicious when I start on "W for Whisky, I for India, N for November, D for Duplicitious, O for Oscar, W for Whisky again (without an e), S for Serendipity..."
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
