I think where the op has gone wrong is the first thing that was asked was "who can I sue" when it should have been "is there anything I can do?". It's just the wrong way to go about things.0

what would TS do, its a 5 year old car with an engine fault, engines do develop faults over time. The OP is asking who to sue over this
Trading Standards might be able to help if it's the case that there is a known problem with the timing chains or tensioners on the particular model of engine that the OP has.
If the garage selling the car knew of a potential problem and that this problem occurred because of a fault during manufacture or assembly then they would be liable in exactly the same way as if it was a 2 year TV that failed due to an inherent defect.0 -

No that is what VOSA is for. They have had the car 5 years, in that time things work loose and start to fail if not maintained.0 -

The OP has told us it is an inherent fault.0

If it's an inherent fault then any rights you have are with the Sales of Goods Act, and not the warranty. The Warranty is in addition to your legal rights, and they are free to add any terms they wish.
However, proving it was an inherent fault after 5 years is no easy task. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
IMHO the main dealer or HQ may make a contribution towards the repair, based on the full service history and mileage.
The odds on them paying for the entire fix are, IMHO, somewhat different.0 -
