It sounds to me that she decided to become a childminder because it suited her lifestyle, ie. being available for her children whilst earning an income rather than because she is dedicated to the job.

That is neither here nor there though is it? A LOT of child minders become so because they have a child of their own and it suits them better to stay at home, become a childminder and make money. And they are perfectly adequate/good childminders. Its a JOB, at the end of the day! Its not a "calling"... childminders are not NUNS!

That has no bearing on whether THIS particular childminder allows inappropriate situations to occur in her household.

In actual fact, this childminder might be a highly qualified, ex teacher who decided to be a childminder whilst her kids were young. She might be highly qualified, experienced and really care about the children she looks after. The only issue here is that she is allowing this inappropriate situation to happen. Her judgement is questionable in this instance. Which isn't okay
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

I personally don't think you have a leg to stand on.
The children should be with their mother not a child minder!
Why are you not looking after your own children?

does your work come first or your children??

And you would probably be the first person to tell the OP, if she was on benefits sponging off the state to get off her bum and get a job! Some people have no choice but to use a childminder!

If everyone waited for the "perfect" time to have a child, then the human race would quickly diminish!

You don't know what someone circumstances are that lead them to claim benefits, plus, no amount of planing can be done for unseen events. What if the OP was in a good financial place when she decided to start a family? And say her husband left her and she couldn't support her children without going to out to work, hence using a childminder?

You never know what is a round the corner, so your comment about not producing is a load of tosh.

I have never signed a contract with her so that's not a concern. If my children don't go for a week i don't pay. I have found another local childminder i'm going to have a meeting with her on Monday. Just speaking to my kids about the games her son plays and they are shooting games such as call of duty etc and my children have played these also. It never even crossed my mind that she would allow children to play on games which are not suitable. In my house things like this are a definite no no.

I am not being funny but WHY did you not have a childminding contract with this woman? WHY?!

Does she have insurance? Is she registered? Sounds like this woman is an accident waiting to happen, and I would echo the cries of people on here who say that you MUST contact OFSTED. I have a feeling you won't though. :(

She is being PAID for childminding services.

This does NOT involve your kids sitting in her son's bedroom playing inappropriate computer games.

The fact she hadn't locked the game away suggests she thinks it is OK for her son to play it.

I Would be looking for another childminder and perhaps consider contacting Ofsted.

I agree. Although, I do get sick of people sitting on their judgemental high horses critisizing frazzled and busy mothers for having the temerity to 'dump their kids in front of the telly for a couple of hours.' or let them play computer games. Almost everyone does it. Probably actually everyone if people were honest!

I do agree though that this childminder is out of order, and I would be removing the child immediately, and reporting her.

Oh for goodness sake, what century do you think this is?!!!

As Raven said, people like you are the first to make snarky comments about people on benefits!

If you have nothing constructive to say, then don't bother to say anything!

There's always one isn't there, and it's almost always a 'newbie' or someone who rarely posts. :rotfl:
