they should amongst other things be getting out of the house and going to the local park and doing something else. Learning, interaction and all that stuff. School holidays aren't just for playing Xbox and watching TV in a room all by themselves.

If she's childminding five or six children, especially ones that need to be in buggy, she's not going to get them out of the house very often!

I thought the rules were that they had to do just that mojisola. They won't pass their Ofsted inspection by plonking 6 kids in front of the TV day in day out. They are expected to take them all out for activities regularly.

If you've got three children in buggies, how does one person manage to take the children out?

Protecting your children comes before friendship - at the end of the day, you are paying this woman to look after your kids and provide a safe and secure environment. She has definitely let you down in that respect... intentionally, or not. It doesn't really matter.

It sounds to me as though she has too many children in her care to be able to do her job properly, and that would be my main concern.

The fact that you are worried enough to post and ask for advice on the issue suggests that the trust is gone, and in that case I would prioritise finding another childcare option.

A backyard with outdoor toys is better than nothing. A local park is just something different and may or may not be a possibility. 5 long days in a row stuck inside in half term would be quite boring. Many child minders do organize day trips during half term to break up the long week. There aren't any school runs do to so it makes it much easier to manage.

She gets together with an assistant....maybe another parent or even another child minder who is willing to help out and take their own kids along too.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • The only real way to make sure your kids are looked after the way you wish is to look after your own kids.

She can only have a maximum of 3 children under the age of 5 at any one time and only one of those can be under the age of 1. So the chances of having 3 children in her care simultaneously who can't walk are very small.

Most child minders have a double buggy and if they have 3 under 5, the third is on a buggy board or walking holding the buggy or on a wrist rein and swops with one in the buggy at some point. Or a baby is in a sling and two toddlers are in the double buggy.

They aren't allowed to have more kids than they can look after properly which includes taking them out and about.
  • She very often just has 2 younger children who she takes in a double buggy. She has 2 young children of her own. She takes them out to the local park etc and will go out in the car when she has less children. I just feel stuck on what to do as all the local childminders around here seem to know each other but i do feel like I have lost trust in her.

It doesn't matter if they all know each other. If you are looking for a place because she let your 6 year old play Grand Theft Auto, all decent childminders will be horrified and understand why you are moving them. And any childminder who isn't would be one you wouldn't want to leave your kids with anyway as they will be just the same!

In fairness she did know where they were ie in the bedroom playing x box.
You can get into all kinds of debates about children being entertained by xbox tv etc but on a cold wet feb afternoon I for one confess my guilt !

She may have left them playing an appropriate game and after she's gone the son has switched it for the older game. Children are devious little so & so's !

Personally I wouldn't be happy but how I dealt with it would depend on how happy withthe level of care generally. If I was happy & this was the first issue I'd have a word explaining my children were upset & I didn't consider it suitable etc etc. If lots of other problens I'd be making alternative arrangements.
