Internet Explorer browser

That's my browser that I use, and I used it as normal first thing this morning okay and then it went wrong and I cant get it to come up again. I've tried switching everything off (including computer at the plug) and it still keeps coming up with that wording that its having a problem trying to connect "will shut programme" and troubleshoot and nothing happens.
Thankfully, I have the icon for another browser and I'm using that at present. I shall be going back to IE though, as its the one I am most familiar with.
Is IE having a problem at the moment generally and its just a case of waiting for the relevant IE techie to sort it out and then all will be as normal?
Is anyone else having problems with that browser at the moment.
NB: I'm not actually sure which version of IE I have. I have been wondering whether to download the browser again and see if that works but want to make sure I have the same version if so. Think I'm on IE 8? (Isnt it supposed to be IE9 that has got various problems and/or is more difficult to use?). So I "think" it would be IE8 I would be trying to download if I go that route.

Me too. It opens to a Bing page (Bing is !!!!) and for the life of me I can't find my bookmarks. I'm also having trouble with the Chrome Browser... It's a windows 8 PC and it may have a virus although a virus scan revealed nothing.
I'm much prefering using the chromebook where everything just keeps working hassle free as long as you don't need to print anything.
Now if they could only invent a Chromebook that connects to a printer and external DVD player effortlessly and Google will crack the market.0 -
Do you have Norton as your internet protection?
If so, Norton is the problem.
Last night's Norton update crashing IE110 -
This unfortunately could be one of a 1,000 different issues that are causing you grief with IE.
Have you tried installing a new/latest version of IE? windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/internet-explorer/download-ie0 -
Hi all, same thing has happened to me, but this has happened before and was caused by AVG, which I tried to download the free version. Because I couldn't and wouldn't have the paid for version it appeared that AVG was the culprit because a download box popped up asking if I would allow a company to change the settings on my computer. The name of the company was,,,,AVG. I managed to restore my normal browser ( google ) by clicking on ebay on my 8.1 desktop and clicking on my homepage ICON. Today, this process has failed so I have had to resort to allowing AVG to make changes to my computer and I have got Google back but it is AVGs version, which is not what I want but is better than having no browser. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.0

I do indeed have Norton protection. Hmmm...hopefully thats what the problem is then (though I was using IE as normal around 6/7 am this morning).
Still thinking I probably have IE8 - but I may be wrong on that.
Is there a way I can check which IE version I have?
If it is Norton's fault (and it does look rather like it - from what you say) then I guess its just wait it out for a Norton techie to sort things out from their end and meanwhile use my other browser.

If it makes any difference - my computer itself is Windows 7 I believe. Its only a couple of years old, but when a computer guy "made up a package" for me to meet my requirements and give me a new computer he put Windows 7 on it (ie because he said Windows 8 isnt much cop as I recall).0 -
Hi,
click the 'Help' button, then 'About IE'.0 -
I never use IE as there are so many problems with it (I have Vista)... I never accept the automatic updates for this reason. Firefox is the best IMO with a pop-up blocker, and I use Chrome if I want to avoid the blocker.0

I've got a problem too, went down about 9.30.
Just keep getting 'internet explorer has stopped working' in a continuous loop!!
I've tried all the techie advise but nothing, so frustrating.
I run W7 on my pc and Nortons.
Hope I can get it back soon0 -
It sounds as if 'automatic updates' has incorporated a bug in one of those updates. My advice would be to reboot, F2 and reverse the updates by reverting to a previous restore checkpoint. This will wipe out the latest dodgy updates. Ensure that you have 'automatic updates' switched off in Windows System and Maintenance in the Control Panel so they are not added again when you next boot up. :cool:0

It's not Windows updates that have caused this problem, it's an update from Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus / Internet Security products. It is affecting millions of IE users around the world.
Norton have admitted responsibility and are working on a repair that will be rolled out via their automatic updates when ready, so don't switch them off.
In the meantime, other browsers are not affected and IE will still run if you boot into Windows Safe mode as I have done.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0
