If you were a foreign immigrant - no doubt you would benefit from the extra tax allowance with no problems at all ....

Oh for goodness sake - do we have to have this sort of sad Daily Mail/Express/UKIP thinking in a tax thread?

I am unable to prove who I am either. No passport or driving licence.

Ironic isn't it that I didn't have to have either fr them to take tax off me for the past 38 years!
I'm stressed enough over this - please don't add to it.

The government assumes that everyone has a computer and knows how to use it. Everyone goes abroad for their hols. Everyone owns and drives a motor vehicle.

Oh I forgot, everyone has a credit card and current account with a bank.

Talk about being out of touch with the British public.

I don't have any problems with my on line tax returns so why do I have to have another 'ID Check' so that my wife can transfer some of her tax allowances to me?

    Well, you don't have to.

It's only required if you wish to complete the online application.

So, I assume at some stage I can get a paper form and send that up.

And it will be done in time for the election!!!

I don't know but what I have seen so far is that the only way to 'verify' who you are is online and using the documents that I mentioned above that everyone must have.

I would imagine that they will come up with a paper based claim along with a better way of verifying you using DWP letters etc.

As for when this will happen, who knows, we are already into the new tax year and tax is already being deducted that if the claim had been made before the start of the tax year, no tax would have been payable.
Anyhow, we can claim it back but you will have to wait until after April 2016 to do that!

So once again if you don't conform to their stereotypical Mr and Mrs you are penalised!!!

Still what else can we expect from this government.

I agree on that - 2 kids, a mortgage, both working 40 hours per week, not disabled
We have none of those !!

Well I too have now received a lovely email from HMRC.

I will just have to wait to see what the other options are to get 'validated'.

Thank you for taking the time to register for Marriage Allowance. This new allowance starts from April, and you will be one of the first couples to be invited to apply online. We will send you an email when the application system is up and running, and give you all the information you'll need.
To apply for Marriage Allowance online, you will need to confirm your identity through the Government's 'Verify' service. For this you'll need a valid UK passport or UK photocard driving licence, along with information about your finances such as a recent credit card or mortgage statement.

Don't forget that one has a credit card, they own a car and both drive and that they holiday on the continent every year.
