I now have my digital certificate from Government gateway - I assume that this is sufficient ID for my claiming the income tax share thing ?
Problem is What do I do with it ?0 -
I do not believe it does. Did you use "verify", which is replacing Government Gateway and, get a user name and password and set up security questions with one of the 4 companies they use - Post Office, Verizon, Experian or the other one I can't remember. https://twitter.com/bertvanhalst/status/5831871008933560320

I don't know whether this has already been covered but I got an email about a week ago asking me to follow a link and apply on-line. This I did, but after answering all their questions I was told they couldn't verify my identify and I'd have to ring HMRC. After several attempts to get through I finally did which is when I was told that being retired I didn't qualify. If they'd made this clear I'd have saved a lot of time and stress !! I still can't find anything in writing which says you have to be working !!0

I would go back to HMRC anyone born on or after 6/03/1935, and meeting the other criteria can apply, the fact that you/or spouse is retired is not relevant.0 -

However, she does not have a mobile phone or indeed a photo ID driving licence. The online Verify beta system does not work without these facilities, given that they need to verify via an external checking system e.g. experian. Why is it so complicated to request - what is a simple Tax Code Adjustment. My wife does not like using the Internet and as she is not in employment or obtaining any form of pension or benefit. It would have been simpler for me to make the request but it has to be made by the person giving up the allowance and not the receiver. Is there no other method for claiming the benefit rather than using the verify online system.
from rading previous posts ther will an option to register over the phone in the email inviting her to apply.0 -

Thank you, I will give it another try. I wonder how many more people have been told they do not qualify through being retired.0 -
It's making me quite envious hearing about people who have received their "invitation" Email and even got the new coding through. I applied on the first day and am still waiting. Very frustrating! How many more out there are in this position?0

It will shortly be the new tax year at this rate.0
