It was just written like someone who has a sense of proportion, which you seem to seriously lack.
Perhaps it also shows your lack of understanding of the meaning of the words you use.
Grow up.
You'd describe someone trying to guilt-trip someone else into becoming disenfranchised and being unable to play their role in the democratic election of our government as a "slight issue"? I think "terrible" is a much more accurate description (and I'm a published academic author by the way).0 -

OP said he wanted to register in order to improve his credit record... And the landlord said that he would increase the rent if he did (Difference in CT would probably be only about £200-300 a year).
Hardly the 'terrible' issue you are trying to fabricate...(and I'm a published academic author by the way).
Let me guess: Classics and Greek Dramas?0 -

Very good! Have a fab weekend :beer:0 -
Not really...I was just pre-empting the argument that I didn't understand how to use language. Glad I made you smile though...it's important to me to make people around me happy . Have a fab weekend.
It sounded to me as if you were implying your opinions carry more weight than non-academics. Of course, if you are an academic you'll be aware that the getting something published isn't all that much of an achievement in itself. And many of the publishers are nothing more than vanity press."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
Non academic and thick as two short planks here

Your on the register now. Its done. Mateys problems are his own. He must be a pretty gormless LL to just presume that a lodger wouldn't register due to credit reasons. Its pretty standard stuff. He should have laid his cards on the table. If you don't register you pay x and if you do register you pay y.
If you like the place and its a reasonable rate at y then stay!
If the rent is too high now and your not fussed about the place then move!
It all seems pretty simple to a non academic like me

Thanks again,
Yesterday I told him, on the rush that I will see what I can do. That was before going online. Today he said that I shouldn't call them or do anything, I registered and that's that. BUT, he wanted to let me know that now he will pay more and he is loosing a 75% discount or something,(l.e. more likely he was getting 25% discount for single person) and if I want to stay I would have to chip in...he was saying that it will be about £300+ per year so my rent would go up. Thing is I am entering the last month of my tenancy contract (6 months) so that's great for him, bad for me. I have to either accept a rise or find another place to stay.
It's appalling how he doesn't admit he is doing something wrong here, but only tried to justify by saying that he had problems before with people getting credit cards and the address going blacklisted and the trouble that followed with the bailiffs. At no point he admitted that he is just trying to save some money or at least that he did wrong. It's like treating me like an ignorant, spoon feeding me lies and reasons.
I know he is not paying taxes for the income from rent, he only wants cash and my deposit was spent from day 1 on his shopping rather then going into a deposit scheme.
If you can imagine, his uncle is living with him (obviously not paying anything) and that old man is not even on the list, he doesn't vote, but why would he care, the old man is only church-room-kitchen. Kinda sad.
Sounds like he wants the money, but is not at all bothered about his duties and responsibilities as a landlord. People like this give good landlords a bad name.
I would report him to the council and the HMRC.
BTW; if he has not put your deposit into the DPS he doesn't have a legal leg to stand on.0 -

He's a lodger with a two bit contract. If you want protecting as a tenant then don't move in with shoddy people who don't abide by the law.
The key as a tenant is to make sure your protected before you move in.
Horse bolting and stable door springs to mind in this case.0
