The single track road - life on a different path

Right, car tax has been paid - £130 for the year
The ex has transferred his share of the childcare bills & joint responsibilities over for the first time on our new single budgets.
We also heard last night that all remaining monies from the ex's sale will be hitting his bank account on Friday, so he will be able to transfer the lump sum over to cover the overdraft and a chunk off the credit card and by the last few bits and pieces he needs for his house.
He also gets the keys, so I will be helping him to get the furniture assembled and get everything nice and homely for him and our son who will be there half the week.
Thanks to you lovey people on here, I'm feeling much more positive about everything today, so thank you.Mortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £50,378.61

I am so glad I do not own a car... not so glad when I am pushing a pram containing a 2 stone child and 10 stone of shopping back up a giant hill in the rain
haha!
How is the bank looking with the joint single responsibilities? I remember when my ex and I split up and decided that we would continue living in our house together for 6 months or so but split all the joint costs down the middle.. I suddenly had an extra £600 a month. All our money was in a joint account which I rarely spent from except on groceries because I didn't feel comfortable spending *his* money. (that is also where my extreme grocery shopping/hoarding food like a zombie apocalypse is coming came from... the only thing I could control!) - I was paying his loan payments for a brand new car he wrote off... and the petrol, and tax and insurance. Lol. A bit of a revelation really. I saved as much as I could, helped him run the car a bit too and got out of there!
Exciting to think that your debts will drop down so much - has there been any more noise from work on the issues that might shut you all down? I really hope it all sorts itself out!!
I too was sniggering at titbit.such a child!
Methinks positivity is catchinga FTD. Forum transmitted disease. Rainbows and hearts and unicorns

I go away (to pretend to do some work) for 10 minutes and there's unicorns and rainbows all over my diary! You two can't be trusted you know!!! :rotfl:
Lilty, the bank account has taken a huge hit! We're splitting childcare costs & an (interest free) debt to my parents who have helped us no end with house purchase(s), down the middle. Dividing up any income, including child benefit, which is 'joint' or for the benefit of the little one, and then he's paying me whatever is the outstanding money every month. We've done it very fairly and each of us would not have the other go without, so we're both happy with the arrangements.
He's also chucking a large amount at the credit card which is in my name, but was used for joint purchases, so I can't fault him.
Unfortunately though, my mortgage responsibility has gone up by at least £300 a month (it's £476 this month being the first payment!!!), and the ex is obviously not contributing to my house now he is moving out this week, but is buying his own food etc. so I'm down by about a grand a month with higher bills.
We've decided to keep contributing the same for childcare costs each every month, including the school holiday months, which will allow a little pot of money to build up which we can both use for anyone unforseen school expenses for DS, such as trips, uniform or summer holiday entertainment etc.
Our childcare expense will be halved in September when DS is in school full time, so both our contributions to that pot will be cut in half, yet still leave 'fun' money for DS.
However, the joint account will no longer be used for the ex's car insurance/tax/petrol etc, and he was always a 'nip into the supermarket and pick up what I fancy' type shopper, so the grocery shopping should come down a bit.
Work is soooooo unbelievably quiet, but we're all trying not to worry about it. We were under review and local government spending restrictions are the reason behind us being hit so badly, so there's not a lot we can do about it except sit back, wait and chew our nails...:(
FTD's - ha ha, brilliant! People will start to talk though y'know...!

Ooh - get me, I just declined going out for lunch as it's 'not in my budget' .
I'll await my gold star with eager anticipation.
And I just got paypal'd £210 in payment for something that I completely forgot about - has gone to pay a chunk off the overdraft alreadyMortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £50,378.61

Save up £11 a month from next month and your car tax will have a pot saved especially on YNAB
just open a category for car tax savings
and save yourself 5%!! I think with the way you have described your pre Xmas income though, you could leave it in these leaner months and pick up the extra £11's and add them in when income is higher
Work does sound a bit scary but take the opportunity with little work to get some plans in place for your futureor of course spend the time on here with us... we are full of good ideas!
lol
I think you will soon start to see that your joint account outgoings will be a lot less. I never realised how much my ex was taking until he stopped taking more than his fair share of my money! The way you are splitting everything is great though. O will want for nothingI am genuinely setting up a £10 a month saver just for school uniforms and trips  and Jelly is only 2! :rotfl:
Yay for paypal! Wish I had money coming into mine instead of leaking out all the time. Darn birthdays!! xx

Here's your well earned star :starmod: I'm afraid gold was out of stock so you can have one of these too to make up for it :heartsmil- on a mission to be debt-free by the end of 2017 -

That's a lovely unicorn Lilty. It reminds me of a canvas print we have on our bedroom wall which is of a very vibrantly multi-coloured zebra - he represents the same for me. Sod talking about it, I'm going to take a pic - nobody will be able to find where I live and steal my child from that, surely. Coming up. (Sorry to hijack MeandO but it is *kinda* on subject and is important dammit - MULTI COLOURED ANIMALS! for heavens sake) x- on a mission to be debt-free by the end of 2017 -
