Unfortunately, they are different.....
You need a valid eye test prescription, before you can have a contact lens fitting consulatation, which is roughly £200 -
Can someone recommend some good, cheap websites for ordering contact lenses please? Both normal and coloured.
visiondirect.co.uk (not to be confused with .com) has been in business since 1998, with with hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers. I'm kind of biased, since I freelance for them, but I see day by day how customer oriented they are, and how they bend over backwards to keep their clients happy.
Make sure you have a valid prescription before ordering, and be sure to visit your optician as frequently as they recommend.

I agree with the "nanny state" comments on the previous page.
People are responsible for their own actions and decisions. Not every country requires a prescription before selling standard contact lenses over the counter or over the internet, and they seem to manage perfectly well.
I was amazed when I moved here, ran out of contact lenses and then couldn't buy them immediately because I didn't have a prescription (which I'd lost - I just use standard Focus Dailies). In hindsight, I should have checked, but it didn't even occur to me!
I now order from an overseas supplier over the internet and it's both cheap (180 lenses for less than £60) and I don't need to prove anything to them.0 -
If you need to renew a prescription Specsavers will charge £20 for a trial incl lenses and give you your prescription after 2 weeks. Much cheaper that D&A who want £27.50 for a trial and a two month contract £40.
Should have gone to specsavers.
ASDA will do £15 but you have to book early.Buy for value not cost.
Feb Grocery = £55.87 / 800 -
Anyone know if there are any free trials going about? I want to try contacts for a wedding (as it doesn't look right with my dress and my glasses on), but don't want to shell out too much if I find I don't like them."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Daysoft lenses seem to be cheaper now then when Martin wrote the contact lenses article. They're now £4.99 for a box of 32 lenses, so about £10 for a months supply, when you buy 2 months supply for £19.96. That's the best value I've seen for daily disposable lenses: http://www.daysoftlenses.com/GB/Buy.aspx0

Are they the essentially the same as 1-Day Acuvue TruEye (underneath the branding, of course)?
No. Acuvue Trueye are made of a silicone hydrogel material (vastly higher oxygen transmision) and is currently the only daily disposible in this catagory (others are monthly/weeklys such as purevision, acuvue oasys). This is why they are expensive.0 -

Daysoft are essentially not the same as any other contact lenses, despite their claims. They are so cheap because they are made using a similar design & technique developed in the early 90s - everyone else has moved on several times since then.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.
