Hi guys!
I wonder if anyone would be so kind as to advise please?
I'm getting various warning messages jumping on my screen and then IE7 stops working and has to restart. I'm running Vista Homes Basics.
Could you please do it in idiot-speak?
Here are examples:
Description:
A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.

- SmpSys.exe has stopped working.
- Something about Windows host process Rundll32.
Also, even though System restore is apparently turned on, I can never seem to restore anything at all.
Also a window pops up after PC Tools Spyware Dr saying something about system restore and Error Code 2.
I know my computer is pretty full (any way to compact the files i've got?) and I have done a disk cleanup, but defrag was going for hours.
Any help would be greatly appreciated guys - thanks.:T

In Internet Explorer try this
click on tools, manage add-ons and then disable all of your add ons. See if it then works OK. If it does you can re-enable one add-on at a time until you find the one causing the problem. Once you've found it remove it and you should be OK.It's my problem, it's my problem

Thanks Bill and Jeff for replying and for the advice.
I'll try that now first Bill,
but if not should I go to IE6 and where would I get it from Jeff?

As a counterpoint I've had no trouble with IE7 although I mostly use Firefox nowadays. It's my problem, it's my problem

Hi Bill,
I just went through the drop down add-ons list and disabled everything that wasn't verified at every level.
There was one that was not verified from Microsoft.
Was this a good idea hun?
Is Firefox compatible with Vista Home Basic angel? Easier as far as problems? I'm with Pipex and not sure of my settings. My computer says that Windows Mail is not properly installed so I went through pipex and have a igoogle home page.
Also there are a lot of windows media player songs and also apple itunes - is there a way to compress my files to free up some space of my hard drive?
Sorry for all this trouble guys.

Sorry TIFF , I found it easier to make firefox my default Browser and havent looked back since.Since i have been on computers ( before windows 3 ) I have never liked microsofts choice of Browser.I never trust anyone who makes a lot of money through overcharging for half-finished Products lol , ESPECIALLY Bill Gates. BUT, if memory serves me correctly, go to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in control panel and IE7 should be there and when you delete it , windows automatically reverts to IE6. Can anyone put me right on this, Please?

That sounds right to me Jeff.
Tiff, Firefox is compatible with Vista. You can download it from here
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
Don't worry that it hasn't been verified.
Did disabling the add-ons fix the problem? It's my problem, it's my problem

JEFFM's method for going back to 6 is correct. As another counterpoint, I used firefox since it's beta days and changed to IE7 as my default browser when it came out and I've had no problems at all (in fact it takes up less resources than firefox) with it so I'd say it was symptomatic of some curruption somewhere rather than an inherent problem with IE."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Hi Jeff, Bill and Superscraper,
Thank you for your time guys!:T :A
I think it's a bit early to tell tbh whether the add-ons worked or not. Just tried disabling all the ones that weren't verified.
I had this error message come through yesterday afterwards, so I still got an error message and enabled it all again.

Hi guys,
I just got that same message again but at the bottom this message was...
''This problem happens because of partial imcompatibility with Windows Vistas - see program manufacturer's etc.''
''R6025 pure virtual function call''
What is Rox9?
Thanks guys.
