Thanks to all the above. I do use the the site for hosting images but only web quality stuff so no need for gigagigs of space.

Even so, 250MB would be pushing it a bit.

I'm looking a Falcoda at the moment who are offering 7.5GB for roughly a tenner a year for a 36 month contract.

The ratio of good to bad reviews is pretty reasonable too.

Well done, excellent value. Keep us informed how you get on with them.

Is that 7.5GB of hosting space, or 7.5GB of monthly bandwidth?

well they can be quick it all depends on the quality and size of the server. but anything hosting on a plan of 1GB or lower is going to be slow and limited

That is utter nonsense. It doesn't matter how fast the server is ... the limiting factor is the end-user's internet connection speed. And NOBODY is going to wait for a website to download a 300MB+ photo, unless they have specifically gone to that page for that specific 300MB+ photo. (In the real world, that scenario is in the extremely remote sphere of likelihood, and bares no relation to the OP's stated requirements).

On a related issue, is it possible to transfer a domain name if the registrar isn't answering their phone (or anything else.)

Apparently, my domain expired a couple of days ago. The first I knew about it was when I was auto directed to 123.com to renew.

do you have access to the domain in a 123-reg account?

if the domain has expired, then you only have a short time ( usually 14 days) to renew at normal renewal price before it moves into redemption period which means depending how greedy the registrar is you could end up paying anywhere from £20 to Hundreds of pounds extra, then after redemption it goes back into the public domain for anyone to register

Bear with me because I am no expert in these matters...

When I go to the domain I get redirected to 123.com. As far as I am aware, I don't have access to a account with 123-reg account.

The site was hosted and the domain set up by a chap I knew several years ago who just sent me a renewal email every couple of years. Anyway, he has completey dropped off the radar and the last contact I had with him was nearly three years ago.

It isn't worth hundreds to me so I suppose I could just chance it let it drop back into the public domain.

    Apologies, my mistake. It's 123-reg.co.uk

Acording to nominet the registrant is me.

I might try giving the guy a bell again tomorrow. It looks like time is of the essence.

OK, if you cant get hold of him and you are sure you dont have a 123-reg account then i suggest you do this

    1) open/register and account at 123-reg.co.uk
    2) login and then goto the support link at the top

then follow the below link to open a ticket and explain to them and ask if they could push the domain to your account for you

    https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/My-Support/how-do-i-send-a-ticket-to-123-reg-support-4251/

if 123-reg wont help and its a .uk domain they you can contact nominet at nominet@nominet.org.uk and ask them. They may charge you £10+VAT for this
