my daughter 16 has a baby can she claim tax credits?

Hi my daughter has a 2 week old baby she is 16 and we are very confused about what she can and can't claim as she is under 18 it seems to be different rules.

I have a 14 year old son and my partner is moving in next week I'm not entitled to tax credits as my earnings are to high.

I am confused about how me and my partners income will effect her tax credit claim?

I am supporting her financially and am happy to do so but i want her to learn the value of money.

She was working full time but is currently off with baby she didn't work there for long enough to qualify for maternity pay so currently has no income.

Her partner is in full time education and living with his dad.

Thank you for your help in advance

  • she get income support atm she is going today to register the birth they said she isn't entitled to maternity allowance.

her bf wants them to go to the council today to see if they can get a private rent and see if they will get help with this he is 19 and is at college full time. He is a bit of a loser and has only got 61% attendance at college.

His dad claims tax credits for him ext he lived here for a week and couldn't cope with baby i don't feel its a good idea them moving out as i don't think he will cope.

Will they get help with private rent on there own i will not pay a deposit or be guarantor as i am concerned about them getting there own place? i will provide a home for all of them if need be.

From your previous thread, you said that the b/f's Dad was going to try for a 3 bed house so that your daughter, the baby and his son would be able to live with him. Didn't that work out ?

hi kerry did you post many months ago about the bf dad wanting to get the girl in his house so he gets extra money. Im glad she remained with you and is continuning to do so.

id say still allow them to research everything but also remind her that she will need to balance her money for bills such as electric and water and gas also for baby milk and their food.
you could do a written income and outgoings to showif its manageble

Hiya yes I did. She tried living there and hated it so came home. I sid the bf could move in but he tried it and couldn't handle no sleep ect.

He feels if they have there own place it will be different. I have found him 3 jobs all of which he has dismissed through different excuses.

He has agreed to move to this area but I feel that if he can't cope with mine having no bills or household chores to do how will he cope in their own place but I can't stop them x
  • I have said I will do what I can to support them but I will no pay deposits be garentor or help with bills. They can live at mine rent free but respect my rules x
