Another DELL Vostro Laptop Bargain!!

I've just gone online to buy a Vostro laptop in the small business section. How exactly do you go about buying it for home use? I left the company name section blank and selected the home use option from the drop-down box at the bottom but it won't let me progress without entering anything for the company name. How do people usually get round this?
Thanks in advance

I took delivery of this spec vostro on Tuesday absolutely brilliant. I did upgrade to the 9 cell battery which I would recommend, if you set it to powersave mode it lasts about 4 and a half hours even surfing the net.
Definitely a very good buy and far better than lappies in pcworld and tesco for the same price.
Again use Quidco as well..

Thanks very much. I knew it would be straightforward! Just didn't want to get in hot water making something up. Cheers!0 -
Are there any issues with warranty if you buy a vostro and aren't a business?
Would the business warranty work OK for a university student? I want to get my daughter a laptop with a 3 year warranty and wouldn't want her to have problems if she needed to use it!
Thanks0 -
We deal with Dell kit at work, and in the past it's had a poor reputation.
That said, nowadays it's usually quite good so I guess they've put quite a bit of effort into sorting themselves out.

Because it's been proven time and time again that the Intel CPUs are far more power efficient than AMD's mobile offerings?
I'd have thought power consumption was a major consideration in a laptop.
The athlon tk-53 x2 is 31w, the core 2 duos start at 35w, i'm guessing the AMD chip is better on juice!!0 -
I bough my parents one of the Vostro 1000's a fortnight ago, it is absolutely fantastic for the money. I couldn't find a comparable spec for the price on the high-street.
Just one thing that may be an issue, aren't items purchased from the Business section exempt from SOG?
I'm not saying that they are but maybe someone more knowledgeable on these things can advise. My farts hospitalize small children0 -

Till recently I too would never touch an AMD with a bargepole, purely down to them traditionally running hot. This is not the case anymore.
The fan on the AMD Vostro is barely on compared to my HP Pentium MMy farts hospitalize small children0 -
Is there any way of getting a credit for Vista as I do not want to use it I'll put Linux on mine. I know Dell do not have a policy, but have heard in news reports that they will issue a refund for the OS if you do not use it and do not accept the EULA. In fact the EULA mentions refunds for the OS if you do not accept.

I selected VISTA as this Dell comes with it and I think the cost of Vista OEM is about £50 odd per user.

I read about this here http://www.techeaven.com/2007/05/10/windows-vista-oem-refund/Seth.0 -
Somebody on OcUK forums contacted dell saying they disagreed with the eula and said they wished to install linux, they had to send the cd and vista serial off the bottom of the lappy and he got refunded £49.0
