Landlords to blame for Britain's rising house prices

No, and I have no problem with companies that BUILD housing to rent it out. ie new housing. It's Buy to Let that should be bannished :j
does that mean you like large companies building houses to rent out but not small people building to rent out
or is the objection to second hand properties being rented out?0 -
Would the price of cars go up if there were more car rental companies? What about the price to rent a car?0

Amateur landlords aren't some special protected speeches. Plenty of governments have let plenty of small, and huge, businesses go to the wall when policy shifts.
I think the time to worry will be when interest rates rise. The first quarter percent is going to be quite a political statement. It will send a chill through the property market and whichever government does it will be in no doubt as to how it will read.0 -

Yeah my remaining mortgage after 3 yrs is less than 2x our joint income.... It would take rates above 15% to grab my attention...... How likely are rates of 15% in the next 10 yrs????0 -
surely no-one (except the BBC ) really believe it only the numbers of net migration that matter and things like different age profiles, different skill sets, different education levels, different asset ownership, where to live preferences etc have absolutely no impact on the country.
You are perfectly correct. As far as I'm aware no one has suggested that any of these things have "absolutely no impact on the country". Particularly me.0 -
I think you miss the point completely. Unite build huge student blocks of housing, they don't go around hooving up cheap houses and driving up house prices.
That might be because you never made that point in the first place.
You're the one that said that there were "plenty of landlords who actually own the houses they rent out rather than just BTL them. There are plenty of student housing blocks owned by companies like Unite."
I was merely pointing out that Unite's ownership is just as much debt-financed as your stereotypical BTLer.0 -
I hope these desparate house price increase lovers loose their properties. And hopefully remove a lot of btl parasites. I am looking to buy for profit brigade!0
