Just had to log in at this. The bit you highlighted in the quote, it refers to effort, this implies you think there is no effort as a lurker?

I have already, way back on previous discussion, put on record some reasons. Could not help but point out that it is a lot harder for those of us not part of any 'group or in and cliche. I see quite a few mentions of pm's and thanks for text tipping off about one thing or other.

So whilst I contribute very little, I would if I had anything to contribute, I find it hard to believe it is easier for me than someone who's made connection with others and can text or pm and get details, not to mention the other place with groups. Sorry just could not help but point it out as a few, not many but enough, have a dim view of lurkers which I think is pretty sad.

I have been 'around' since the DTD days, tail end unfortunately when the cap was in place and seen the inception of this thread. Took quite a while away following a lot of nonsense and RL which got in way of me keeping up. It is certainly far from easy for me, others may find it easy but I certainly don't.

Going too far now but I also see what you'd term regulars pop in for what they need and toddle off for long periods of time, swings and roundabouts. I find it surprising and disappointing that in a place that tends to accept all and try and understand others and situations that this downer on lurkers persists. I think lurkers that actually make use of this thread do leg work in the reading and keeping up, others who are not prepared to would drop off. I see many a mention of search function, mine never gets me any info I want so I make a point of keeping up.

You haven't gone too far......if that's how you feel. I hate the word lurkers and I hate the word trouts but that's just me:) I read for ages before I started posting. I felt like an outsider looking in watching everyone having fun and saving money but not quite understanding how it all worked. But you get so much more out of the place if you post more I promise. The reality is that if fewer people post the thread may dry up. It feels a much better place when it's lively.
    Stay around and chat.......:)

That was my own thought. However, I tried them once (at £2, even if we waste half the bag they are still cheaper) and found that, surprisingly, they lasted longer. I think the sack helps keep them dark. I keep folding it over to ensure it is as closed as possible, as the other people at this household as usual leave it wide open to the air:(. The last lot (which will now last only one more meal, tonight) - BB 24 February - have started to sprout for about the last week or so, but it's fine, as I just pull or cut off the 'sprouts' and the potatoes, when cooked, taste fine enough for me. They're not fresh fresh, but they don't taste "off".

Savvy, if you pop an apple in with them they won't sprout! Seems bizarre but it works. OH has stopped complaining about the state of the potatoes at the bottom of the fridge...

Really? I have always been so careful not to mix my fruit and veg up, no idea why though :rotfl::rotfl: I am going to try the apple idea. Hope I don't forget about the apple though as they cost a fortune

The swapping of info via text tends to be between those that know each other in real life. If it not a secret information swap between a cliche y few to the exclusion of others ... If you got to know anyone on here in real life you would probably do the same.

I don't find any glitches, but at least I pop in to say hello, and to say thanks to those who do find the glitches.
