I know some people think it's a "thoughtless" gift and that it's a cop out. But for a 24 year old lad who doesn't need anything else it gives him the freedom to save it for when something comes up, or like you say, service his van. Why limit him to amazon?
If you were going for something "thoughtful" - though I'd argue in this case that cash is thoughtful, maybe some prints or a canvas of photos he has taken (on his fbook?). If he is outdoorsy there may be some good shots with good scenery. You can get posters made (aldi photos). Hth
its difficult isn't it - he is fiercely and stubbonly independent and has been from a early age.
I've wasted numerous years of my life, long dark nights worrying myself sick about money and paying bills and I don't want that for him - I want him to go out on his hills and mountains, on his lakes and on his bike rides and just concentrate solely on the joy and excitement he gets from being outside.
He has thousands of photos on his FB page but about 95% are landscapes and the rest might or might not have him but usually he is so layered up with a silly hat on the top its not possible to be sure its him :rotfl: But I do like the canvas idea though if I could find a suitable photo.
so I think it might be the most sensible idea to put money into his account - if I can get his account details out of him - otherwise I've got his savings book and I can out money into that which he might be more agreeable to. He has a savings account which started with a savings book but he can also access it online as well now.
so far this year he has organised a week in Wales in March working at the other centre sea kayaking - coaching and also getting some re training for himself - work are giving him £80 for his travelling costs and I assume he is in staff accommodation.
He is also doing an intensive course to get his mini bus driving license in April - again work are paying for it and he has organised it so that he is doing it in Stoke so he is coming home for a week and then going up on the train each day.
He also has a one week intensive course to do his life guarding, again its local so he is coming home that week and going up on the train - this one work has not paid for so I am trying to persuade him to let me pay for that one.
He has also just had a week up in Scotland over half term in the snow with his mate walking and climbing and sleeping in the van
