Powerline network adapters with pass-through

I think that I need a couple of these - in order to make the most of my fibre connection at the far reaches of my "estate" (3 bed semi).
According to TalkTalk support - there is no reason why my fibre (SUPER) Router cannot reach my PC upstairs but it doesn't - giving me 8Mbps connection speed upstairs but 38Mbps downstairs.
And before anyone suggests - a network extension lead, tried this - and got a slow speed downstairs !!
Anyone else found a similar problem ?
Anyway - advice please on which powerline adapters to buy - or are they "much of a muchness" ?
I need them with pass-throughs (lack of power sockets)
I assume that I just feed the output from the router to the input of one adapter - and take the output from another to the PC network port ?

Are you having powerline on extension lead upstair at the moment?
I know it does slow down...
Or do you mean you are on wifi?

At the moment - I am on WiFi, which doesn't give me a good signal upstairs - I am thinking of trying Powerline to link my router (which is in the hall) with upstairs .

Also - are they secure ?
Do they have any encryption ?
I understand that neighbouring houses are on different phases supply-wise - but surely another property "may" be able to receive your internet connection - if they have the correct hardware ?

What do you mean by 'secure'??
You need to plug in CAT5/ CAT6 cable to get access...

There's two types, HomePlug and PowerLine Alliance, and as they have developed they are different speeds.
Theres not a lot between the standards from an end user point of view so just buy a starter pair from anyone and they'll be pre matched. It only becomes a relevent if you want to add more later that you need the right standard and speed.

Cabling wise, yes, you plug a LAN cable into the Powerline and connect it to the router, and the other end you plug the cable into the powerline and the device to network.

Iv;e got 4 TPLink ones, and I bought mum some ZXYEL ones, all have been fine, I had to link mine together as they were two starter kits but its usually just a case of pressing a few buttons on the units.

They won't cross phases, but the signal should not pass though a fusebox, so should not leak out, however they can be set to use encryption, and its usually enabled out of the box, and a starter set pre-paired to each other so its unlikly anyone else can use it.

I have just checked my TP link box and they have security (128 bit AES)

Thanks - that's inferior to WPA2 though !!
But since the signal is (in theory) not escaping the house - then that will be fine.
