My TP link ones (about 18 months old) use 128bit AES. I think this is the baseline now.
Apologies...You are correct, no idea why I put the old standard, must pay more attention. :o:o
Point is, that they are perfectly safe security wise.

They won't cross phases, but the signal should not pass though a fusebox, so should not leak out, however they can be set to use encryption, and its usually enabled out of the box, and a starter set pre-paired to each other so its unlikly anyone else can use it.

This is incorrect. I have set up poweline adapters between two adjacent properties approx 10 meters apart, where the signal propagated very well though the consumer unit in each property, therefore it passed though not one but two consumer units with absolutely no problem!

There certainly is a lot of rubbish on the net about powerline adaptors but there is no reason that the signal will not pass though a consumer unit. This is exactly what happens when adapters are used on different ring circuits e.g. down ring through the consumer unit to the up ring.

Similarly they work fine on extension leads apart from some containing surge suppressors.

It looks like the OP has lost interest in this thread now and has not even answered questions asked - perhaps her indoors has told him that he can't have them?
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:

probably right, going around plugging/unplugging them all the time would be a right PITA

I am considering my options at the moment

Absolutely but a 5m cat 5 cable sitting up the stairs permanently may not go down well with a partner.

Exactly - hence my looking at wireless options...

Depends on how it can be run. May even be an option to drop it through a wall cavity.

That would be a good option - or through the wall - and round the rear of the house - externally - that is a better option - is network cable up to being "weathered" ?

But going back to my original question - if I use powerline adapters with passthroughs - these would be my best option - but which are the best to buy ?
They need passthroughs - our wall sockets are limited in number !!
