A few things have happened since I last posted...
We have a mortgage in principle which is valid until September, also contacted the architect/ project manager (the same one my sister in law used for her extension and we are so impressed with the work).
The architect has a lot on at the moment and there is a 6-8 week wait until he can draw the plans, then it will be another couple of months until we get planning permission, which we need to draw funds of the mortgage (however the lady I spoke to said as long as they are submitted and we have the builder quotes etc we could draw the mortgage).
So looks like August/ September time we can draw the funds (hopefully will make it while this mortgage is valid!) and the plan is to start building in October wooohooooo :j:j:j
Meanwhile I want to hammer down the loan as much as possible! Obviously we will also have some expenses related to the build, like architect fees etc.. But I'm going to try and get rid of the loan, will see how we go... :money:
In different news, I had a job interview in the week! Somethings have been making me unhappy in my current job for awhile so I have been quietly looking with limited success but got this interview which I was thrilled about! I think it went well, my only concern is that the other candidates have more relevant experience (whereas I'm from a different sector but I have all the skills!). So we will see what happens with that, but on the other hand until we have the money drawn for the mortgage the timing of changing jobs might not be so good!
I'm not going to stress until I know for sure, and if anything this interview has given me a new confidence boost so I'm happy about that
Hope everything is well with you all xx0 -

Your totals looking amazing stepup!
All is well here0 -
Since I know that the building stuff is a while off at the moment, I will be directing the "spare" money we have into the overpayments so paying £500 towards the loan for March
:money:0 -
Had a lovely bank holiday and looking forward to tomorrow and whole of next week as I'm off work! It's amazing how much difference having this Friday off made and how much stuff I got done.
Really really wish I was lucky enough to work 4 days a week.... But now with the extension looming we are making completely the opposite choices and will have to work harder than ever! But..... Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm only 32 so have plenty of working life left and should be full of beans... In theory.. However my energy levels are telling me otherwise oh dear hahaha :rotfl:
I don't think I'm lazy at all, I don't know what it is, maybe it's the London commute that tires me out so much? And working full time plus running the house/ kids even though they are older now, who knows?! But I must keep going and plodding on.
I m looking forward to doing the house up though and I truly believe this is our forever home so once it's done that be it! I've been thinking of my long term plans and ambitions and after the house is done I want to get a larger car. Mainly because I have a strong suspicion that my DS will be about 6ft when he hits his teens so can't imagine stuffing him in the back seats of our current small car :rotfl: and also just generally want a bigger car for our family. Then I want to take them to Disney world Florida... And only after all that I can even think about relaxing
Meanwhile getting ready for the extension I have largely cleared out and organised the garage. The only thing left to go through is sort out some diy stuff, which I will do once I've done some painting and re touching tomorrow. I took God knows how many bags to charity on Saturday. I have also de cluttered the house even further and being very strict with what we need to keep. I truly believe that these days we have way too much stuff! I am selling some bits but only higher value stuff as cannot be bothered with my previous eBay efforts of 22 parcels at the post office
Tomorrow I'm planning to paint a few bits around the rooms where the mould come through with a special paint. We had it confirmed now that it's not damp but a condensation problem caused by the poorly ventilated Windows (the new windows are pretty much on the shopping list so hope we will have the money left over from extension). And then maybe sort some paper work and few other housey bits during the week.
Then I have some other plans with the kids during my week off but nothing too expensive, can't wait until a couple of weeks time when I will hopefully know the quotes for the extension work and can start planning and stressing
Hope everyone is having a great Easter weekend xx0 -
Had a very productive day yesterday! Patched up and painted the mouldy bits in sons room, couple of corners and patches in some other rooms, bathroom and toilet ceiling and the grouting. Everything is looking fab! The anti mould stuff we bought was a spray which I used first to seal it (it's so good and quick and forms almost a plasticky like seal so hopefully it will last!) and the special anti mould paint which was quite expensive but because I used it sparingly I still have lots left. Then I covered it with the original colour paint if that makes sense. I kinda fanned it out with the roller as I was worried it will look slightly different colour but it looks fine. Very good if I say so myself
So hopefully it will last and looks decent while we wait for extension. As the problem is with the windows I will try to have them open as much as poss meanwhile.
My garage looks amazing too, so clear! There is still a diy box to sort which I didn't get round to and quite a few bags of rubbish, stuff I've decluttered but they will go in the next few weeks with the rubbish collection. We do need to go to the dump again as there are a couple of things that the council won't take but I will send hubby to do that when he's off next week.
So for the most part everything is sorted and I can relax and enjoy my time off! I have also shut down my fish tank a few weeks ago (found new home for the fish as I don't know if you remember but I was kind of giving up on keeping them, I feel bad but it's better they go to a new home where they will be appreciated!). Anyways I have finally sold the fish tank itself yesterday and got £60. Then I have also got another £70 ish coming from music magpie so all in all I will use that for spending money to do something nice with the kids0 -
Also forgot to say, I have amended the loan total with the usual payment at payday, just over 7k
Not sure what will happen with the overpayment yet as we will possibly need to pay the architect this month. Hubby is dealing with this so I have no clue if this is something we have to pay when he comes or when he completes the drawings (which would make a difference as would be next payday!) and whether we can pay by credit card. All I know it's 1800 for the drawings and he is coming in two weeks time! I also need to ask if it includes the planning permission fee... Hubs never thought to ask.
I'm wondering whether to get a purchase credit card to finance the bits before the mortgage money comes through, but I will hold off as long as poss for that one. Plus I'd be worried in case they would run another credit check before we draw the mortgage funds? But once that's done I will get one as want to keep the house money separate from the day to day living expenses if that makes sense.
Things are getting serious now0 -
Had a lovely lovely time off! Did lots around the house and spend some quality time with the kids, took them bowling, meeting friends and some other activities. We also had a couple of lovely family days out and dinner out as treats
So now it's back to work! I'm keeping an eye on my bank balance (as always) and it's looking good. No other spends planned this month apart from the usual living costs. I will need to put some money aside for the architect but I'm also hoping to make an over payment a bit later this month, but we will see! Also it's hubby's birthday end of the month so will need some money for that.
I have created a different diary in the MFW section as I thought it might be annoying if I keep going on about the house extension on here as it's supposed to be a debt free wannabe forum, so if you want you can check it out. Although nothing new is happening so far
I will be back later in the month to update my totals :money:0 -
Making £300 overpayment so now in my 6,xxx :j :j
I don't know if it just me but I'm worried that this new mindset has made me a bit tight? In particular when it comes to office collections and sponsoring people.. I'm feeling a bit ashamed about it but can't bring myself to just give £20 just like thatI have an email from a colleague I keep meaning to sponsor but looking at previous donations it's like 20/30 quid at a time whereas I'm more comfortable to give 10 or even 5 to be honest, but worried that people will see a smaller amount and judge
It's a small issue I suppose but has been playing on my mind for a few days!
Other than that no major news, I wasn't feeling very well the last few days and majorly busy at work. Which obviously doesn't help as I need to be in top form to deal with the increased workload!
No news on the extension as the architect appointment was rescheduled for next week.
Speak soon :A0 -
Hurrah to being in the 6's!!!! I know what you mean about collections.. I stick a fiver in at the most, we get asked so much, and you can't do everything xxLBM 1st Feb 2015 £18182 to go
