rescue centres have many, many dogs who are perfect for rehoming and the majority of them are there because they've been abandoned or simply unwanted :(

If you popped along to Battersea, you'd be amazed at all the different breeds they have there, all just wanting a warm bed to call their own.

The advert states 'very, very small' - this should put you off immediately as chihuahuas that are smaller than the average 5lb+ are usually runts of the litter or have been bred to be tiny which will cause them alot of health problems.

It's okay :) You just have to be careful because breeders are breeding their dogs and using any methods they can to produce litters of 'tea cup' or 'tiny toy' chihuahuas - when actually there is no such thing.

These 'tea cup' chihuahuas are abnormally small dogs, usually runts of the litter or inbred from previous runts to keep the dog small.

A chihuahua should be 5lbs+ in weight when fully grown. Breeders are pocketing alot of money by selling these tiny health problem dogs because of the popularity of Paris Hilton and such celebs that you see carrying theirs around.

you tolilet train a chihuahua just like any other dog - because he/she is a dog! lol and also should be fed a high quality dog food that provides all the nutrience he/she needs - good foods are Royal Canin Mini Adult, Nature Diet, Natures Menu - its fine to give them chicken occasionally but human food does not provide everything they need in their diet

Be careful if your still looking for a Chihuahua because they could be a target with dog criminals looking to steal from you to sell the dog on to someone else.

My advice is to get as many dog training books as you can, everybody should read up on training before they buy a dog. Then look at dog training classes locally, I take mine to classes and they are thriving from it.

They need not cost you a fortune if you take the time to find a decent breeder. I really suggest getting some books on the breed as well, as they are VERY different to Collies!

Can i just say that reputable breeders do not need to advertise in the small ads as they usually have a waiting list as long as your arm. Small ads are often used by puppy farmers as well as "back yard" breeders. Basically you really dont know what you are buying which isnt money saving at all
  • As has been stated before, there is no such thing as a teacup chihuahua! It's either the runt of the litter or abnormally small ... you could choose the one that's the smallest and end up with a 9lb chihuahua!!!

That's what happened to me once over!! Of course though, I just wanted a chihuahua, no matter what size he or she was. They're not fashion accessories though ... they are lionhearted and will do anything they can to protect their favoured person.

I did once have a chihuahua who only weighed 3 and a bit pounds at adult, but she was the biggest pup in the litter believe it or not and then just didn't grow too much at all afterwards ...

There aren't many breeders in my area and I had to go (from Yorkshire) to Wales for my latest little boy, Dylan (had to be called that, didn't he?!) ... he was so so small and was being bullied by his sisters which was why I went for him, more to get him out of there than anything else. He was £750 one year ago and he is already 4 and a half pounds ...

The one thing with chis though is that their metabolism can be very high and they can actually have little hypos, so some of them may need to be fed little and often to kinda balance it out a bit, rather than being fed morning and night.

They're little tinkers, but once you've had one ... you are totally converted ... !! They are a rottweiler in a tiny body who will fight to the death for you, will tire you out playing and they don't THINK they are God's gift .... they KNOW they are!!
