thinkin of buying a chihuahua

  • I have 3 chihuahuas and a jack russell chihuahua cross. I've just bred my Chi/JRT cross with my Chi male so hopefully there'll be the patter of little paws soon :) Let me know if you'd be interested in a pup.

The trouble with chihuahuas is, they cost a lot to purchase. They're beautiful dogs but they cost alot to buy, especially from a reputable breeder.

I feed my dogs on bakers puppy, not the best but they enjoy it. I suggest puppy food or small bite food because they only have little mouths and sometimes regular adult dog food can be too big for them to chew.

Have you thought about getting a rescue Chi?

You may be able to get a rescue Chi that is already toilet trained, plus the rescue would be able to advise you on how to care for it, including what food is suitable. They would also be able to assess its temperament, health, etc properly beforehand, which is not always possible with young puppies, even from the most experienced breeders.

There are some breed rescues here:
    British Chihuahua Club Rescue
Mrs P Bungard, Hove, Sussex. Tel: 01273 413501

    Chihuahua Rescue Service
Edith Esland, Chesterfield, Derbys. Tel: 01246 866334

I have also seen Chihuahuas in other rescues recently.

Plus from the moneysaving point of view, it would be cheaper to get a dog from a rescue so you would have more money to spend on other things for your new pet.

How much do they cost then? King Charles Cavalier spaniels seem to vary between £250 and £600, which I thought was bad till I saw in the paper this week somebody wanting £1200 for a Pug puppy

Haha yeah hence me saying that Chihuahuas are rather expensive to buy, especially from reputable breeders.

I paid £550 for my long coat chihuahua female (got a bargain there!), and £650 for my male chihuahua.

there are so many dogs in resuce homes looking for their forever sofas. Do you really need to buy one?

I agree, please please look at rescue before you line the pockets of some breeder that is probably just in it for the money.
