Excellent - I've just come from a topic slagging off the Daily Mail, I guess they're good for some things, eh? :)

While it's great they managed to help, in the end it was YOU who made the mistake.
Next time, double check and take care. If you lost £500 on the street, you can't expect anyone to help you get it back. Why people think banks should simply reverse the payment is beyond me!

What a load of crap. If you lose £500 in the street you should expect someone to claim it and hand it in.

It happened to a tourist in the town where I live, they lost their wallet and someone posted it back to them. We know this because the tourist sent an email to the local paper who plastered it onto posters around the town.

    absolute nonsense

the system for transferring money is very poor and badly designed and clearly fails the 'treating people fairly' test.

Apart from the normal corrupt banking (and other large organisations) practice of wanting to blame everyone but themselves, there is no reason why they can't design a decent system to enable simple everyday errors to be corrected promptly.

I then contacted the daily mail regarding the situation, and one of their reporters called them on my behalf.
Always good to hear of a happy ending, but just for clarity, who was the 'them' the DM contacted - agency, bank or FOS (or all of the above)?

There were no checks.. nor enter a pin etc..

Don't forget you will already have gone through security. A pin wouldn't have prevented you making the payment.
  • So whom did you contact at the Daily Mail who managed to persuade Santander to refund your money within 12 hours when even the FO had failed to do it?

no system is idiot-proof and someone making simple errors everyday is indeed an idiot.
