DVLA Tax Disc Fine

in Cutting tax
Hi everyone,
Much to my surprise I received a letter through the post today saying I had a £200 fine for having no tax on my vehicle.
To my surprise, given that my current tax expires in June 2015.
Basically I can only think of two options
1. My car for some reason has not been updated on the new system as having tax.
2. It was a very sunny day and this somehow detracted from the (presumably automated) camera that took the photograph.
Anyone else experienced this?
Can I invoice them for wasting my time?
Cheers

Bought the car in June from my dad - absolutely certain about the tax!0

How would the sun detract from the camera?0

All the camera would do is read the number plate. You've got a letter, so it must have read the number plate properly. So nothing to do with the camera or it being a sunny day!
Presumably you have the tax disc on the windscreen, so what does it say? Or have you destroyed it due the the recent changes meaning they're no longer needed.
I don't suppose your father cashed it in when he sold it to you did he?
Otherwise, what proof do you have that it's taxed? If you think it's a database error at the DVLA then you'll need evidence to prove that you've taxed it.0 -
Could it be that you have last year's tax disc on your windscreen?0

Cheers 'maninthestreet'
It says it's not taxed on there.
So basically I have a tax disc I know was bought legitimately and expires in mid 2015 but doesn't show up on the DVLA records.
Anyone know of any good reasons why???0
